Apple CarPlay issues 2022 Vito (W447)

I’ll be a year next week since I took delivery of the van. Yesterday morning I paid a visit to the dealership in Carlisle (8th time) to have the new head unit module fitted regarding the CarPlay issue. It seems to have worked as the half hour journey home was faultless maintaining a hard wired connection. I’ll monitor it this coming week before I start celebrating.

They also changed the faulty TPMS valve on the FNS wheel. ✅

Booked in again next Saturday to investigate the lack of permanent live on the 13 pin socket. (The suppling dealer has confirmed that there should be one for charging after he got advice from MB tech team).

Annoying to be still having issues a year on but at least they’re being sorted.

Hopefully next week should be the last visit. 🤞
8 dealer visits in 12 months 🙁

Yep. All FOC but regarding issues with a brand new factory build van. 🥴

A fair amount of wasted hours from work too. And bus journeys as they don’t have a curtesy vehicle. 🤯
Hmmm, less than impressive really.
So when's the Transit Custom getting delivered then?;)

Glad to hear that your stereo is sorted 👍🏻

Indeed. Who’d have thought Ford would be associated with such a lesser brand. 😝
😂
When I was spending a lot of time in vans (and money on them), there's no way I would have chosen a Transit over my Transporters.
Things would probably be different if I were to do it all again now.

A lot of my friends have newish Transits and there have been quite a few issues with them (I don't have any specifics but I've heard a lot of moans). My step-son is a plumber and has an older Transit (EU5 I think) that's just needed a new engine at relatively modest mileage. It's depressing really that there doesn't seem to be a genuinely good/reliable van out there now, no matter how much you spend. They are just too complex. A big problem for private owners like me and my dog training friends (and small businesses) who like to run them for a good few years.

What's the story with vans and the "ICE ban"? There doesn't seem to have been the mad scramble towards hybrids that there's been for cars ... just a few e-vans with limited range.

Aye, I guess they’ve all got their fair share of issues Bill. But I seem to be plagued by this Vito. I’ve had 3 transits from new and never had as much trouble as this one Vito. Although I have to say they’ve all been reliable and never cost me a days pay through not starting.

A new gremlin today. Dash Kept ‘pinging’ saying offside sliding door was open when it wasn’t. Seems door contact is faulty. 12 months old. 😤🙄🤯

The new transit custom has an electric version with a healthy range AND can tow 2 tons. BUT the cost is eye watering so not an option for me.

Interesting that the new Transit will have a 2.5 litre petrol hybrid version. Hmm maybe I could be tempted by that (if I win the lottery :D) - could be a better long-term proposition than an EU6 diesel.

On the e-Transit ... they have an online range calculator for the current version, which has a quoted range of up to 196 miles (236 miles for the new one). At lower temps. that can drop to 120-130 miles though with only 25% payload, and that's with a 55 mph speed limiter:

Will be interesting to see what the real-world ranges are for the new version.

Back at MB dealer in Carlisle yesterday regarding the issue with the 13 pin socket.

There’s a module box (buried in the rear side panelling) that controls all towing electrics, isolates rear parking sensors when reverse is selected etc.

There’s a permanent & switched live going in. But nothing coming out.

New module ordered. They’ll contact me when it’s landed and I’ll pay yet another visit. 🥴😣🙄

I’ve never felt so disappointed in a brand new van as this one. 😤

Begs the question who did the check when the towing gear was fitted?
Not really good enough is it?

Hope I'm wrong but I have a nasty suspicion that as per the factory electrics on my old W639 it's not designed to output permanent (or switched) live, in which case the replacement module will be the same. Fingers crossed that won't be the case though!

I thought the same Bill but 🤞.

The only reason I have hope is the info below for the suppling dealer in the Midlands:

However, this basically gives wiring info for a 13 pin socket. Doesn’t necessarily mean it should be Live. 🤷‍♂️

Clutching at straws here, but just a thought Ant: looking at the install instructions in that link ( I appreciate yours may be different) the switched and permanent +12V need separate grounds on flying leads with ring terminals to be attached at the rear of the van. I wonder if on yours those connections were forgotten or haven't been tightened?

Good points Mikey. I’ll certainly mention this during the appointment. I’m such a regular there now they’ve given me the keys and alarm code to open up on Saturday morning. I’ll pop on the lights, radio and turn the vending machine on. 😁

I only mentioned it as in my experience of electrickery based gremlins it's often a simple issue that no-one thought to check.

Sounds like at the very least you should have your own parking space marked out. Just pour yourself a Lavazza and crack open a packet or 2 of Biscoffs ;)

You think thats bad, went out to mine this morning and it wont turn over to start.

I get all the clicking and dash lights etc but no starter spinning.

Got their breakdown guy on his way apparently.

As an aside, a couple of anecdotes.

I had a brand new VW van and got shot of it as it was really bad with reliability and stuff not working.

Friend of mine has a four month old Amorak parked up out of use in his yard as the digital dash doesn’t work so can’t see how fast he is going and the usual adblue sensor failure and VW have no idea when they will have parts available for repair.

This may or may not be a coincidence but both vehicles are now platform shared with Ford.

Having said that, the new twansit connect I had was totally faultless in the three years I owned it!
