Are MLs that bad?

With the new M due sep 05 (MBUK yesterday) the prices of the old one will drop off.

Just quickly browsed this thread as we are on our second ML. I love being that high up - makes you feel so much safer.

From a lady's point of view who doesn't care about tearing round bends and hacking down motorways at 120mph - it's great.

We thought about an X5 but didn't even test drive one because a) we wanted the option for 7 seats and b) all X5 drivers we know are totally up themselves and chavvy with it.

I met up with an X5 driver the other day who was giving me advice about when I filled our ML up with diesel. He said he though MLs were 'girly' cars! When I told my hubby who's a 6'5" sports mad, real man (this X5 driver is a 5'2", tubby wimp), you can imagine what he said! No offence intended to any 5'2" tubby wimps who may read this.

Having said all this we probably won't have another because they are so expensive to run (especially when you accidently fill them up with diesel!)

Hi Claire,
;) I should imagine it would be even more expensive if you filled your 270CDI up with petrol?

Nice car though,
John

Oooops! I meant to put petrol. Now all you guys will be thinking 'silly cow, no wonder she picked up the wrong pump!'

Hi Claire,
Not at all, there are more than enough bulls (reference to cows ;) ) that have made similar mistakes.

So what is the replacement going to be? The new M-class will have a V6 diesel with the choice of the 320CDI.

My wife tried an ML but decided there simply was not enough room for all our 'tribe' with all the necessary wardrobes, cases, dog etc that is always required whenever they go on week-end trips etc.

Hi John,

We bought a roof box to overcome the luggage problem - cost about £600 from Mercedes!

I have heard that the new Volvo 4x4 has a 7 seat option and is gorgeous but I haven't actually seen one on the road yet.

We are not due to change the ML until April 2007, so we've got a while to think about it. Ideally, I would like a some sort of wagon for the kids, shopping and holidays and a CLK for 'moi'. Ahh well, dream on.....

Hi Richard,

I agree that insurance report does not make good reading  . The onus on drivers of bigger/heavier vehicles is to drive more responsibly.

Cheers,

Hi all,

I have just bought a 01 51 plate ML 270 Cdi, its covered 87k with FMBSH, and I must say both my wife and me are over the moon. It seems to be ok on Derv (previous car was a Golf Gt TDi), build quality is fine no rattles or etc One thing was the wheels, i think they are to small so i replaced them with 20" wheels which have made the car feel more stable on the motorway etc.

I didnt buy it to go terrorising the streets, personally I am beginning to think there is no point in having a quick car as the speed camera, gatso vans are all spoiling the fun of owing a performance car. Thats just my 2p worth, perhaps i will change my mind if i have similar issues as other ppl have had in this topic

My 2 cents About the Ml.
Love my ML270 CDI... Lots of room. Nice drive but not a sports car... INterior does squeek once in a while... Same as alot of other cars.... Sucks Diesel like a horse H2o.....(22MPG....) Basicaly if you like it get it... If your scared about it do not... i have Replaces 2 injectors last month.. mercedes did give me the parts for free.... that on a 120.000 KM car.... Wear and tear goes together in a cars life...

Greets Ben ;-)

I have done about 67000 miles in my 2002 ML270 since new and had no major problems. It has been regularly MB serviced and, overall, I am pleased with it - it is high-spec, smart, comfortable, economical, roomy and practical enough for my two dogs.

For some time I ran it alongside my Porsche Carrera 4 and found them to be an almost ideal pair of vehicles, that suited most of my needs.

I have recently been thinking of changing it and, not being taken much with the new ML, am inclined towards the Range Rover/Sport. I have, in fact, kept it for longer than almost any other vehicle I have ever owned, so it can't be all that bad!

ml 270

had one for four and a half years, no problems with it,
it has just been wrote off,
now replaced with another ml 270
if your worried about the car doing big miles per gallon, you should not be looking at any 4x4s,
if you fit a power chip box it makes a huge difference to the car, available on ebay, mine has ten power settings

i had a bmw x5 for a hire car while my insurance was being sorted out,
boot was way to small,no use at all to us,
folding rear view mirrors was a option extra, when you get out you have to push the mirrors in and out by hand, no thanks you can keep the x5
