Autoexpress article has made me think.....

Just tape over the area that gives the raised profile. You will have a flat beam than.

If one uses beam benders on complex parabola headlamps, with clear lenses, park the car with the lights on facing a wall and just stick the benders on wherever it makes the beam shift over. It works a treat, but the angled cutout still raises towards the left, even though it's now on the right. If you see what i mean..:crazy:

The system of on the spot fines could be abused.
<sarcasm>
I don't see the problem. It's a well known fact that our Police are all totally honest and beyond reproach. Aren't they? ;)
</sarcasm>

I suspect you're right, but the French seem to make it work OK.

As an aside on the topic of on-the-spot fines, while I was in Singapore on business recently I noticed a couple of supercars being driven on SG plates and asked my host why on earth they bothered with cars like that in such a congested city/state. The answer was simple: come the weekend, they stuff the glovebox full of cash and head for Malaysia where they drive at whatever speed they choose. Invariably they're stopped by the police, they pay the "fine" and roar off until they're caught again and the cycle repeats until they run out of cash and head home :D

The paper is not suggesting on the spot fines for all but only for those the police do not feel will appear in court (no UK address)

If the fine is paid in cash it has to go into an evidence bag and be sealed...a receipt given. Not sure if an evidence bag is tamper proof - perhaps someone can enlighten me.

It would be the clear plastic evidence bags and they're tamper-proof alright. It is impossible to open them/get anything out once sealed without it being apparent - and they all have unique serial numbers too.

This is muted to be changed.

*ahem* I know I'm being pedantic here, but the word is "mooted".

Back to the original post of headlight adapters, A lot of new cars these days come with a "neutral position" which allows you to switch the left focussing headlights to a straight in front position with no left or right side deflection. This is certainly the case with my Subaru and my nephews BMW 5 series as we travel Europe extensively we always leave the headlights in the "neutral position" even for the UK and have never been stopped. Although we have seen police checks on leaving Ferry ports in Calais, Rotterdam and Dunkerque. In both the BMW and Subaru handbook it says this "neutral" position is acceptable and legal for travel in EU countries. Is this the case??

I've lost count of the times one of our fellow Europeans has been stopped and let off with a little flea in their ear when a UK citizen would have been prosecuted. It's a trifle embarrassing :mad:
I trust if you ever have occasion to stop one of us you'll do your part to redress the balance ;)

I believes so as you will not have an offending beam pattern likely to dazzle an oncoming driver. It may get picked up at MOT time though.

Do Mercedes have a "neutral" position.........................hmmmm we should be so lucky (Kylie)..:)

Perhaps they are doing it quietly...:D Thanks for the "correction"..appreciated

My LHD car has completely unaltered as it drove out of the ealers in Monaco headlights and they have never failed an MOT, the beam is fine.

Dave!

Thanks for that very good point as at the moment both cars are around 2 years old, must remember to change them back before I sell the Subaru and advise my Nephew to do the same for the first MOT, Thanks:)
