Battery alternator red warning light on

Folks, another quick question, my fan belt snapped a while back, which ive had replaced aswell as a bearing, however the warning light is still on and my local garage tried resetting it but couldnt, local mechanic is saying its my alternator thats fault which i doubt, as i have no problems with starting or with battery drainage whatsoever..

any advise would be appreciated

An ammeter should be put in series with the battery to check the charge rate
