Becker Map Pilot 2.0.49 Upgrade

Decided I don't really want to wait for Becker to try and solve this problem so took my car to the local dealer today.

One of the Techs there was completely familiar with how all the downloads and updates work on these units, so I ran through everything I did as well as adding all the extra bits of info about 4gb & 8gb memory mentioned in this thread.

I left my Map Pilot with them (as it's basically useless to me as it is). They will contact Mercedes Technical today and get back to me. In my case they are hoping for authority to replace - then send mine away to find out what went wrong - but I need to wait and see.

I'll update when I get more info.

Mercedes Redhill (Lookers group) always very helpful.

Going from bad to worse for me I'm afraid. Nothing further from Becker, and still getting the 'No unlock code' error. Tried restoring etc but useless. I eventually decided to buy the latest version (even though I was within the 45 day period) just to see if the Q4 maps would get over the issue. However, the Web site has been offline for any purchases for the last 2 days. During all of this there is nothing from the Becker team to say what is happening. I really think that MB need to prod these guys into some form of action. Back to the TomTom...

PM'd you.

Also have you tried looking in you 'backup' folder, if there is a back up in there can you replace everything on your map pilot with your back up?

No surprise they've taken this down from the shop.

I have a feeling I'm going to get more joy from my dealer. We'll see.

I did email Becker and suggest they send me a replacement and reply paid envelope in which I'd return the dead unit for them to examine.

No response yet.

My view is if it has been supplied by MB then they can sort out any issues. In the same way I wouldn't expect to have to go to Bosch or Continental.

That's what my dealer is finding out.

The thing is, they supply the unit but are they they responsible for future software updates supplied by a third party (the manufacturer of the item).

Probably not unless the unit itself is faulty. A good question maybe to ask the Dealer is if they have sold any of the new larger size units (8gb?) have customers (or indeed the Dealer) managed to update these satisfactorily?

Still waiting for Becker!

They were completely unaware there was any memory size difference at all.

They don't stock items, all Map Pilots are ordered on request.

one interesting fact was about the latest version of the Becker:-
there are the older 4GB memory units.
Until the day X (05/2012?) = 4 GB in the delivery, then 8 GB.
It would appear the latest version of the software and data might require the extra [non card] on board 8GB memory to function correctly??:dk:

That date's not right I think. My Becker has an assembly date of 02/12 but lists as 8GB

Am wondering whether to risk a download...

Will report back if I do!

Cheers
Dave

Remember to take a Backup beforehand if you do decide to risk a download! Hopefully you could always do a Restore then if needed!

New pilot arrived

I've just received my map pilot this week, eBay, from Poland £137 bargain I thought!
Connected to my pc on Thursday evening and tried to update, after now reading this thread I'm glad the update system was not working. so it's working with the software it came with for now, will wait before I try again.
Have to say I'm quite impressed with it so far, I hope all you with problems get some help soon.

Local dealer rang back this morning (where I took the map pilot).

They talked to Mercedes Head offoice - Mercedes say here's the number for Becker support - call them.

Kind of what I expected. Local dealer a little embarrassed and feels they should replace but can't without authority.

I'll chase Becker today and will call Mercedes head office.

Phoned Becker.

"We are aware of your case but are waiting for our superiors to provide instructions, there is not currently a solution"

"Mercedes UK are responsible for your unit - you need to contact them directly".

Phoned Mercedes customer support. They have opened an investigation.

They are not aware of a problem with these units.

It will take up to 10 working days to complete their enquiries.

Still no working unit.

I just knew this would happen. It's like dealing with the chuckle brothers. To me to you to me to you.

I emailed on Friday and not received a reply!

So is the general concensus to not upgrade at the moment? Has anyone upgraded succesfully?
