Best place to position axle stands on W129?

Hi

The technical idiot requires advice again! I've bought myself a pair of axle stands to carry out some simple work on my W129 (per a previous post) but am unsure where is the best place to position them - there's an awful of plastic under the car and I don't want to damage / bend anything!

Advice please.

At the front of the car you can put them under the suspension if they are the stands with forks as the top these will go in the swinging joint of the bottom wishbone, do take care and allow for the movement of the wishbone as it levels out when you lower the car on to it, so get them as near as possible to the chassis.

I left my 129 on 4 stands for a week when the wheels were being re done

Can the same location be used to jack up the front of a W211?

Yes you can and I left my 129 on axle stands for a week when the wheels were away.

They need to be placed inboard as far as possible so that when the car is lowered onto them they do not tip up, if you can get them on the fulcrum point, then that is the best place

Hmm, thanks Malcolm but once again, my lack of knowledge on, well just about anything, makes it difficult for me to visualise what you mean.
Any chance of a pic from the Russian EPC please?

Right underneath the item 100 with the u section of your stands under the large part of the bottom spring control arm right under the number 100

So I'm placing the stands at the point were item 100 joins item 105, correct?

Only under the round part of item 100 not on 105.

if you look at the end where the 100 is you will see that it is round and will sit nicely in the U section of your stands that will mean that one of the prongs on the stands will just be under the arm where it comes out.

Item 105 is the bearing that is inside the 100 piece, it is just shown in the drawing as a seperate thing

Yep, I realise that 105 is inside 100, I just wanted to confirm it was THAT end of the arm to place the stand.

Alternatively, is it ok to put my trolley jack under this point and then place my axle stand under the rubber mounting point under the sill?

Yes it is and you have the chassis member that 100 is fixed to as well, if you can get the jack onto the chassis member it would be better

I used the chassis member on my W202 a couple of weeks ago, but is it ok to do this on a W211? I thought the newer cars all had aluminium chassis members now, and so would be too soft to use as a jacking point?

My indy advised that I shouldn't use the cross member on my W220 as that is aluminium, so I assumed the same of the W211.

No do not put it under the chassis if it is alli,,

Ive been thinking of getting some, so you bascially place them under the rubber bungs under the sills? (w202)
