Congrats, i think you made the right choice. I think the Insignia is a very nice lookin car but imo the Saab is a much nicer car to live with. At 130k its barely broken in. While a friend of mines Saab was in for servicing they lent her a 9-5 with over 280k miles on it, and its still going strong. Sorry to hear about your premium going up, I almost defected to a 9-5 2.3t until i found out it cost the same to insure as my current car. Have you tried Aviva? When i went for a renewal More than quoted me nearly four times more that Aviva.

David, why not junk both and get a newer Saab 93 if the Saab marque you like, but without the temperamental nature of the older car. Personally, I'd get a Merc or a Skoda (or any VAG) or BMW

I tested both 9-3 & 9-5 earlier in the year, looking to buy a used one under £15k.
If you look to change in the future, try the 9-3, I found I prefered it over the 9-5.

I almost suggested this as I know of one in Edinburgh that is for sale. I'd have to check on the spec, but it is top line with leather and bi-xenons at least, and has been well cared for by self employed colleague who used it as his business car prior to the XF.
It would be competitively priced - he doesn't need two cars...

I'll find the rest of the details if you are interested. It is a good presentable car.

Still available as far as I know.

One of the reasons I can make this work is because I can own the current car outright. As soon as I start making payments etc, then the Insignia suddenly becomes a much more tempting target.

Thanks for the offer though.

Also treated the car to a cheap private plate and a smoke bomb to clear out the musty smell.

.

It was more for Piff! You seem happy where you are! Pleased to see you kept your Saab. I have a soft spot for them.

The Saab.

Stylish designer look instead of whatever the look an Insignia has...

I have had three Saab 900t, just so stylish, I loved them. A chum has an 18yr old Saab9000, the total repair bill has been for bulbs. It is getting on for sixteen quid.

A belated end to the thread. Have viewed and agreed to but a Volvo S60 T5 today. photo's to follow eventually...

I had an S60. Was a good car, watch out for ETM problems though. Get it remapped, they really properly fly.

I have had a Saab 9-5 2.3lpt and a Volvo C70 T5. In terms of go the Volvo obviously pans the ar*e off the Saab. In terms of comfort I have never sat in a seat as comfortable as the 9-5's, like an old leather armchair, in fact it was much better IMHO than the W212 I am now in!:)

Agreed! Our Saab seats are waaaay more comfortable than my 211s and even better than my Volvo S60 before that.

People love to knock Saab, and to an extent I can understand it, no new models for years, GM selling etc, but when you have one and use it regularly, you can see why so many people joined the Save Saab convoys around the world last year.... they do have something special. Not as special as an MB of course, but compared to the average run of the mill cars, they are nicer.

Agreed. Where the Volvo wins is on build. It all seems a bit more solid, not that the Saab rattles. It's done a few less miles, and it's quicker.

There is no real logical change other than I have always wanted a T5.

We are moving next week, and I am in a tad of hot water for being out messing around with cars at this time.... Hey ho.

My S60 was a T5 and it was an awesome car! A real Q car as I de-badged it and really there was nothing else outwardly different to the 2.0T. But did it go!!!
I miss that car.... (also think the Peter Horbury Volvos were the best designs!)

edit: I don't miss the ridiculous turning circle though!! :D

Had a V70 before which shares the turning circle...

Have to get used to replanning my corners and parking.

Tell me about it, I usually drive a 940 but occasionally use the S80 D5. I really have to take care to remember that the S80 just won't swing into a narrow parking space in one go.

Had the same problem with the C70. I think you should have oil tanker training before leaving the garage!:D IMHO that's why so many have the corners rubbed on the bumpers.

I always remember being loaned an S60 with the 18 inch BBS wheels, with them fitted they adjust the lockstops and reduce the turning circle even more!

My mates S80 with the 6 cylinder transverse engine and 17 inch wheels was horrendous for turning.
