BJV Wheel Refurbishment Beware!!

I suggest that if they don't do the work for free and with profuse apologies, that you take the wheels to two other wheel specialists, get written reports from both, then get the wheels repaired at your own expense, and then sue them in court for the cost.

Definitely contract trading standards as well, they may have a file on this company.

BTW this thread is an excellent example of how important good customer relations are to a business that deals with members of the public.

Just look at how much work they've lost because of one thread. Imagine how much work they'd have gained if the original post was full of glowing praises about how they fixed the OP's wheels for nothing.

Jaymanek, can you refurb these:

I personally cant! but pristine can im sure... ill find out a price in the morn and get back to you.

Thanks

BJV refurbed a set for me late last year. These were diamond cut but I had them repainted bright silver as this is far harder wearing and I wanted to use them for winter tyres.

I have been told in the past that refurbed and lacquered diamond cut wheels can degrade very much more quickly than from new (why should that be??) so it can be a better proposition just to have them recut and stick to polishing & waxing bare metal.

But I have no regrets about going for a paint finish!

Odd twinge about a couple of small blemishes but overall results were OK. However I got the impression that these guys were very, very busy at the time, possibly to the point of overtrading. If so that would be very sad as it is a classic mistake: wind up the output in any specialist business with limited capacity and at some point down will go the quality. (Where have we heard of that before??)

Surbiton Tyre & Wheel are meant to be quite good - though not sure about having an exchange service. The nearest exchange agent for Pristine Wheels is Slough I think. I'm based in Surbiton too and have the same dilemma. The other alternative is to buy a cheap set of wheels and tyres on eBay and swap them over.

Incase anyone interested, stopped by these chaps today as I live in the area as well. Friendly guys, quoted me £230 w/o VAT (Not sure if it was with or without VAT quote is downstairs in the car) and need 3 days, also supply you with a set of replacement wheels while yours are being done.

Forget these "joker" wheel refubishments/refurbishers such as BJV and instead just buy brand new alloy wheels (different styles/designs)..... :D

It is rare for brand new alloys to have imperfections in their finish i.e. dirt trapped in the lacquer and blemishes etc. which you will get from refurbs - also brand new alloys come with warranties for two years rather then argung with some "micky mouse" or "cow boys" setups such as BJV...

PS. I hope that BJV read this thread too...

Not being funny, but if the alloys are just de-lacquering or have some stone chips why not so them yourself , summers coming so you'll have no problem with the paint 'blooming' due to being damp...

I know what some of you are thinking, the finish won't be as good ..... but if you take your time , it will...

I did mine over a year ago now , painted the lips silver and the face grey and then laquered them....

Ok, it wont work if the wheels are really badly kerbed , but if you have to respray them once a year , whats that going to cost, an afternoon and a couple of cans of paint ?

Minor imperfections can be filled with 2 pack epoxy filler and flatted down before priming and painting, i even had some success getting rid of my kerbing marks ....

My wheels are still good, no flaking or peeling, although i kerbed one the other day ..... :( will do that this weekend ! Remember , its all in the preparation , the rule of P's applies ..... Preparation and Planning Prevents P**s Poor Performance ....

Get yourselves down to Hellfrauds, pick up 2 tins of white primer, 3 tins of chrome/aluminium paint and a couple of tins of lacquer and Roberts your fathers uncle....

I don't want a different design and new BBS alloys are £600 each + VAT whereas a refurb is £60 + VAT.

I was being a bit sarcastic but rather then put up with poor refurbs and customer service from the provider I would eb tempted to buy new alloys but again the set on my current car are only worth £700 (ish) brand new and not as expensive as 2/3 piece alloys...

Gulp, only worth £700

Don't forget that that is as much as some members pay for their cars in the first place.

A bit different from paying £26 per wheel to have them refurbed

I am surprised to hear this. BJV did a set for me a few years ago, they did a very good job, not 100% but for the price very good. The wheels were still good when I sold the car 12 months later. My only criticism at the time was that they were difficult to get hold of, worked odd hours and were very busy. The wheels were good apart from 2 specs of dust or sand stuck under the paint on 1 wheel.

I recently kerbed one front wheel (gutted) so got the mobile Wicked Wheels chap in, he did an excellent job but more than twice the price of BJV.

That only works when the importer doesnt go bust and the new importer wont honour the warranty. One of the times i wish I paid on a card and not in cash.

quite right - I was going to use them but will now AVOID!!!!

For all my stock i use www.lepsons.com i used to use spit and polish but found there painted finish pretty poor!I cant recommend lepsons enough, they have a fast turn around and do a top quality job. This year alone they have done over 50 sets for me and have never been let down on the quality.

I have used lepsons too ...

They were excellent. They offer a same day service if you leave you car there, but it has to be booked in advance

I always thought that a full refurb is at least a 2/3 day process where “touch ups” when they just paint the face of the alloy wheel without stripping it to the bare metal is normally a same day service?

Did they do a “full” refurb on your wheels?

it was full strip down to bare metal (some chemical dip) and repaint .. so a full refurb.

The wheels were warm when they came out all shiny and sparkly.

Surbiton Tyre & Wheel refurbed the AMGs on my old W203 C270 very well. The exchange wheels they lent were a set of W210 alloys, which looked a bit odd for the few days they took ...

Have used them again since, and will definitely continue to do so.
