black smoke w210 e320 cdi

http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/members/arkamelis.htmlarkamelis: Do you remeber whats the part number for this bar? Mine smokes HUUUUGE BLACK cloud everytime I try to accelerate harder.

Is it possible for you explain it better where that bar is located? I will be checking this on mine as well.

Just had a quick read of this thread, i have the same problem it was in limp mode got it checked out and a vacuum pipe was loose or off...anyway got it fixed and the power was noticeable again but it still smokes heavily under hard acceleration and occationally goes into limp mode . Do you think its that motor flap/bar thing or would the egr need replacing or can i get away with getting my garage to take it off and clean it , thanks alot

Take the cover off and check if there is ny gunk around injectors. I checked mine and it was terifing to see what I found. Number 2 was leaking.

boom...the issue has been resolved....yesterday we opened EGR manifold and cleaned it. we also did the cleaning of inter-cooler and related pipes. result is no smoke, more power smooth as silk, and no rough idle..... loving it..cleaning of egr manifold is highly recommended in CDI engines but one has to take care of small 4 butterflies at the end of the manifold. they are made of very low quality plastic and while cleaning it make sure you dont damage it...breaking of these flaps is a common issue.....dont know why Mercedes make some very important parts so fragile....

iv just had a look at the pic of the motor and i started mine up and i cant see anything moving? is the egr valve the shiny square metal tube in picture http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/memb...ox-motor-located-under-section-engine-bay.jpg

the lack of power and black smoke is doing my head in now!! i want to clean the egr (once i find out where te egr valve is) and find out if iv lost this stepper bar? or wheather its an electrical problem causing it not to kick in?

thanks

If you unsure remove all that what you see in a centre of that picture. In a middle you have EGR cooler and that goes from EGR pipe to mixing chamber.

Remove all that (mixing chamber, EGR valve attached to it on a side - you will see vaccum hose connected to it and cooler as well) and do all clean-up on all there items. I did mine in about 4 hours and it was all gone. Do that first and when you remove it you will see this arm/flap and you will easly check if its OK or sizzed.

Well worth it.

thanks for the reply, i had a look this morning ad the motor was moving the small peice of metal, but there is nothing attached to the metal bit at top so the motor is not doing anything does that mean my "steper bar?" has come of? i see a long thing peice of metal to the left of it attached to the engine, is it surposed to have something attached to it so that it opens and closes something? i will be going to MB today to ask them and as for the cleaning of egr issue il get someone to help me, i took off what i thought was the EGR valve with 2 hoses on it and 3 star bolts holding it on and it was a bit cokey but when i blew down the 2 pipes the small round thing came in and out at the end , does this mean the egr is operative?? thanks and sorry for understanding my ameater view lol

That stepper bar is under intake mani and unless you stick your hand underneath you wont realy see it. If you remove mixing chamber then you have much easier access to it.

I am about to tackle an EGR job..... help

Hi all
I am new to your Forum but I know some of the names from other forums.

After a brief chat with my friendly Merc dealer he said that I needed a new EGR valve ( but the car was not examined)
.
Symptoms... Black smoke when under moderate to hard acceleration. But no noticeable loss of power and no other problems.

I sourced a new EGR for £220 from Mercland ( £370 plus vat from Mercedes) arrived today and now I cant wait to change the old one out.

But from reading the above there could be many other things that could be causing the problem. The bar on the bottom as seen in one of the pictures above ... if it was to become stuck or stiff would it show up other symptoms other than just black smoke ??

So assuming I will go ahead and change it. Could some one give a brief out line or the order of removal.
Also which gaskets that must or should be changed also while doing the job?
Is there anything else I should check out while doing the job ??

Cheers all and look forward to tips and advice

Lack of power now ive connected stepper motor bar??

After reading the forums for weeks i decided to investigate why i have clouds of black smoke on kickdown or anything after 2000 rpm, i found the stepper motor bar under the egr had come away so i have now connected it but now limited to 3000 revs and no power...but the black smoke stopped! i got my daughter to rev the engine and the bar isnt moving, does this mean i need a new motor of somekind ???
