Friday of last week I was waiting at a traffic light controlled junction in the right hand side of a two lane carriageway. Lights turn green and I move off then bang, pedestrian runs into side of car at speed and lands on the bonnet and slides down the front. As I was about to get out to check he's OK he gets up and proceeds to continue running down the road. Must of been on a promise.:)

In hindsight I realised that the car on my left didn't move off at the same time so he must have spotted the runner but he was blocking my view so I never knew he was there until, BANG!

When I'd finished with my appointment I spent the next hour in the local police station filling out forms and producing the usual paperwork required by them (Why when all they need is the reg no and the rest they can find on databases:confused:)

The only 'damage' to the MB was a bent gun sight but that popped back into pace, I really hope that the runner was damaged in the nether regions.

Was there lights for the pedestrians as well?
It bugs me when the 'Pedders' ignore their lights, they are their for there safety as well!
Lets have fines for the pedestrians like they do in the USA for Jay walking but the pedestrians don't have reg. plates on them, so not easy to catch!

Arrogant pedestrians are becoming quite a serious issue, you know the type, they walk in front of the car irrelevant to who has right of way and stare at you with the "What are you going to do about it?" look.....

My other pet peeve is people who simply walk out into the road and open their car door to get completely oblivious to traffic.

I have to concur with this, and whilst I don't wish anyone any harm padestrians need to remember who is more vulnerable, car driver or them and bare that in mind when leaping accross the road oblivious to their surroundings.

Part of the problem is that people seem incapable of going anywhere without some ear peice stuck into their ears playing whatever noise of choice they like be that Brit Pop or mega death metal. Whilst its nice to listen to music when walking down the street safe in the knowledge that your iPod is fully charged it does take away something that lacking in most people and a fundamental need, awareness of whats going on around you.

Very true. I spend my life being amazed at the complete lack of spatial awareness displayed by people in every concievable form of transport- On foot, in cars, on bikes... Muppets!

Its just modern Darwinian theory in action in natures way to rid the world of the "unfit". Darwin would be very proud of Apple.

There were no pedestrian lights, left to common sense when to cross as it has a refuge splitting the road in two but he ran clean across both after the lights turned green. I never move off before they change as far too many motorists in Brum think the amber light means accelerate as hard as you can before they go red.

Cyclists I don't bother about, that's what the gun site on the bonnet is for:devil:

Must fit the Stebl horn too, that's usually good for a change of underwear.:D

This morning (on BBC1 I think) I was listening to a sad story where someone had been killed on a quadbike, he had a helmet but had chosen not to be wearing it. The obviously still greiving sister was demanding a law that quadbike riders should have to wear helmets. And some health and safety official (no doubt protecting his job in the forthcoming recession) was whittering on about needing more laws since people buy 2nd hand quadbikes and wont be aware of the dangers)
- I was thinking 'lets educate people as to what happens if they dont wear a helmet' because otherwise they will still buy a 2nd hand quadbike and just be oblivious to the law (or buy a 2nd had crashed helmet with the 2nd hand quadbike)

Is this a sign the health and safety culture has gone to far ?

My theory: The people that the health and safety culture is aimed to prevent being hurt now feel so safe they have forgotten that cars are harder then them and will kill them if hit hard enough. Darwin 1 , Oblivious person 0.

This would explain the people just opening car doors, or walking out in front of cars, smoking whilst filling up with petrol etc.
- I've carefully spent time ensuring my kids understand that they have to establish eye contact with the driver of the car that *should* be stopping at the zebra crossing & make sure it has stopped rather than just walking straight out expecting the car to stop.

Yes.

Recently my children & I were told we couldn't play catch with a clean, brand new tennis ball in the nearly empty 50 metre leisure centre pool. "It's too hard."

We could, however, use a plastic golf ball (as found on cheap toy putting sets) which has a couple of tiny holes in it, fills up with water & is as hard & heavy as a rock of the same size. "Just tennis balls are banned."

Muppets incapable of independent thought.

Why do young mums take mental risks rushing out from between parked cars pram first...nutters, and what about these lunatic dog walkers wandering about roads at all times of night with dark clothing on....

Final rant for today (im a cheery chappie in real life) i got mighty ****** off today driving down an "A" road with 3 maggotts on push bikes, dressed like power rangers in lycra, cycling 3 abrest and making life as difficult for the motorists as possible to overtake... if clowns like this wish to take up as much space on the road as a car then they should pay as much to use the road....bloody lycra loving pratt's.
Sorry if any of you like pedal things, i just hope your more responsible on your bike's
