Bloody snow

255 40 at bank and 225 45 both 17s at front. It's Falken winter tyres. Middle of road. I notice most here are running premium brands?

yes, however I had Nankang SV2's for three years on my old W203 320 petrol and found them adequate in ice and snow , just their wet grip let them down.

what made you go for 255's?

Gently falling like icing sugar in Slough borders. I might take the Range Rover out for a trip soon!

I was going to build a snow man on the local parkbut with our city council I may need to the following .....
Apply for planning permission to build a tempery structure
Do a full risk assessment
If its over one meter high get a permit to errectt scaffolding
Get a safety certificate for scaffolding
Inform the HSE as my kids will be working in -2 temperatures
Do a risk assessment to make sure they have the correct clothing to work in exstream conditions
Hire a caravan so they can have a 20 min break every two hours
Erect safety barriers to protect Passers by incase it falls during construction
Install safety lights so no body walks into it at night

Have I missed any thing ?
Don't think I'm going to bother as its so warm in my bed :)

255 was what was on the back before. Not a clever decision...

Has just stopped snowing here, looks about 2-3 inches.

There must be a minimum requirement for PPE in there as well. At a guess I'd say hard hat, safety glasses (in case of snowballs), gloves & safety boots. No doubt some kind of Hi-Viz vest as well as every man and his dog seems to need one these days. (How did trolleys ever get collected in supermarkets in years gone by??)

Snowing quite a lot here now but E36 all toasty and dry

Its a similar situation in Switzerland and Germany but here it is mandatory to have Winter Tyres on. I have ContiWinters on mine and provided you drive safely with plenty of distance then generally you have good grip and can brake with confidence.

I saw a another merc driver yesterday without winter tyres and he was a complete menace as he kept sliding everytime he accelerated in traffic (rear wheel drive just keep pushing the ass out)

The winter tyres are highly recommended provided they are good quality :thumb:

I took the wife's B class to work today as no school run, and she has Goodyear Ultragrip 8 winter rubber on. I was sailing past 4x4's on summer tyres who were really struggling.
Job for the weekend....fit my spare winter wheels / rubber onto my car.

Slough coming to a halt now - just too many unprepared fools out there.

Of course I was being fully responsible heading over to Lidl to buy some axle stands, a trolley jack but most importantly washer fluid proof to -60c. You can't be too careful.

Incidentally a Range Rover on M&S tyres has little more traction than other cars. I should have taken my winter shod Merc.

We just don't do snow!

I do! Have no choice in the NE of Scotland.

Who here who's fitted winter tyres has gone for a narrower wheel. I'm just not feeling the transformation that's being suggested. Improvement yes but transformation...no.

Same size as summer tyres which are already wider than standard fitment. 195s

195s on a car with 250kg over the front axle and no problems. kg for kg I'm running wider than you are. Perhaps your choice of car with so little of its weight over the driving wheels is your problem.
Brand = Kleber Quadraxers. Recommended.

Charles, I suggest diluting the washer fluid, there are usually guidlines on the container as to how much dilution has what effect on the effective temperatures.

We have to use washer fluid as part of the proving testing for the plastic parts we produce for car makers. The neat stuff as you have bought it is very corrosive, when left on the surface of nylon it will significantly corrode the part over a 24 hour period. Although we don't test paint, I'm sure it has a pretty bad effect on paint surfaces/finishes when used without dilution.

No snow here in lancs yet today, we had a light dusting during the night.

It will be diluted, that's for certain! I have been caught out by poor washer fluid in this weather, and the last time I used it it was brilliant in keeping the windscreen from being over-whelmed in a blizzard.

Lots of snow here. Just done 60 miles in the 124 on Kleber Quadraxer all season 225 45 17s. No problems at all. Grips was excellent. Its the first time I have needed them in anger after 2 years on the car. So far very impressed.
