Bought myself an A45 AMG today

What's with all the hype?!? Anyone would think it's an 18 year old buying a brand new e63 or cl63!! It's a 2 litre hatchback for crying out loud lol! An it's 30k not 300k!!

Already set up insurance ready to do it now, I've got a month to claim it now.
It's multi-car policy also. I drive a 300bhp now, and that was only £2,000 to insure lol...

Seems people round here can't handle facts, we'll all bet if you want, everyone set a wager and we'll sort out a mini-contract, I'll make a lot of money from you guys.

Your problem was you mentioned you are 18...it's what all you children do...if it was only about the car you wouldn't have mentioned it.

My best friend had an XR3i and then a 405 SRi when he was 17/18 and he managed to survive those years without crashing/dying/killing someone.

I had an XR3i at 18 and with 105bhp on tap it what was no comparison to an AMG. That said the risks I took at that age with that car  I and my mates are lucky to have survived.

Fast forward to age 21 and Im in my dream car a Saphire Cosworth and luckily with a bit more maturity to not be such a risk to myself and other.

I admit a bit of a powerful car for an 18 year old and you learn every day on the road but a tad presumptuous to claim he's immature. He might drive like miss daisy? Who knows.

I also think it's about time young blood got into Mercedes.

I wasn't allowed a 105BHP Alfa when I was 18, it was as simple as that...the 'discussion' ended there & then. :(

I don't think my parents were too happy about me buying an Opel Manta 2.0 GTE as my first car (110BHP) when I was 18.

The fastest car my peers had was a 1.6 Laser Capri and the rest on 1.3 / 1.1 Fiestas, Astras, MK2/MK3 Escorts, Fiestas and Montegos etc. :D

My problem was I didn't concentrate at low speeds. Never had any problem at 'high' speeds.

Brakes weren't great so although I wouldn't be chuffed if my 18 year old son told me he wanted an A45 AMG - at least the brakes are bloody good!

In my family they could want all they liked, there's no way to this day any of them including extended family would be allowed a 360bhp car at that age, never mind paying for it or the exorbitant insurance premiums. I think rightly so too. Even when it comes to myself now, I wouldn't want one as simply I'd find it too difficult to keep a pocket rocket in check with the speed limits.

Presumptious ...maybe...but two threads bleating on about being 18 and able to afford expensive cars doesn't suggest he is otherwise. As others have said, on this thread, they never felt the need to bang on about it.

If he had merely come on here to talk about the car he would not have got any grief...and hasn't learnt since the first time he tried this nonsense.

I do agree that generally it isn't a good thing for an 18 year old to have that much power. Joking aside, I think it should be tiered like I believe bikes are (?).

I suppose part of me feels you can still easily kill yourself in anything and at least an A45 AMG will be safer, will have stability controls and safety features that none of the cars had when we were young. I'd rather they didn't do it at all but if they are going to - I'd rather 100mph in an A45 AMG than 100mph in a Fiesta XR2.

Fair points. Still, with all the passive safety gear, better chassis's, brakes etc,etc it's the rapid acceleration that makes for potential danger against the likes of an XR2 (it takes a long time to get to the ton in the Ford). It's 360BHP car at the end of the day and you can't put an old head on young shoulders as they say.

Sideways into a tree at 60 will have the same result in an XR2 and an A45.

I think it entirely praiseworthy for young chaps to drive fast cars. Best quality young organs for transplant should it all go wrong, what could be more public spirited?

I seriously hope he heeds everyone's warnings that the car is a serious weapon and is responsible with it.

I can't wait to see the pictures. They're mean looking little cars.

Even if they are going to be selfies with the car in the background! :p

Custard may be called!!

Oh, no. Please leave that to all the young guns on PistonHeads, where 360BHP would seem to be the bare minimum any self respecting petrol head should have! :D
