Bought something mildly interesting last night...

Love it.

Serious piece of kit man

Not yet! But happy to be told that the stated "underbody exhaust rust" was heavily exaggerated, was just a few rusty bolts.

Think it looks in very reasonable condition for its milage, which is what the agent also said.

Stunning! You are a very lucky man (well maybe not when you're hitting the petrol stations :D).

Looking forward to hearing more about your ownership once it arrives.

Looks a great buy...when are you expecting it to land in blighty?

I would get it into a good local MB indy to give it a once over...

Will land on these shores on the 19th of january...

Yep looking for an Indy W140 affectionado, ideally with a bit of an M120 experience...

Very nice car, jealous!!

Where are you based? I am sure you will get a good recommendations from here...

Based in South of Norway, Oslo.
So north germany/Sweden/denmark would be my best bet...

it doesnt surprise me that it comes up as a S600L, seeing as that is what it is.
The car was then shipped off to AMG for a complete upgrade to 7.0 spec.
This was a 50.000 Pound Option back then.

I dont doubt its authenticity, everything seems to check out.

I wonder if the person who scuffed the bootlid lost a bit of his little finger for the error ;)

That's a Japanese AMG no question.

Colour me extremely jealous. Keep us posted on the car when it arrives!

Great looking car.

The individual rear seat option is quite rare and makes the car a lot more valuable.

If you have any problems with the CNS nav unit drop me a PM as I have a few spare units I bought for mine. Unfortunately you can't ditch these for something more modern as the climate/heater/ac controls are integrated.

hmm

Didnt know the rear captains chairs made the car more valuable :D
I love the integrated look of the NAVI, wont ever work in europe though i would suspect?

ah well.

Thanks alot man, will shout out if I got a problem with it!

hm

Spoke with Autoservice Faber in Berlin now, very nice chap - independent specialist.

He told me the M120 engines are magnificent, the only thing is that they have to be driven - they dont like standing around too long. Oh and the ignition is something you should be wary of.

Told him my milage ( 75.000 miles) and he responded " ah it should be no problem then , these engines will go 500.000 KM without any problem with regular service ".

A Big service where everything is checked and replaced, barring any big surprises should be no more than 400-500 euros... Famous last words but a mechanic having so much faith in the M120 is music to my ears.

720 NM of Naturally aspirated torque... here I come !! Probably going to name the car "The Wall" from the Wall of torque that comes on demand :D

You may be able to get the maps updated, but it's not really worth it as there is no way to enter text for destinations....you have to use a cursor to locate the destination on the map. This is 1996 tech remember!

Also, the nav is run from a computer which takes up a shocking amount of the boot space.

The main cause of failures on the M120 (And M119 for that matter) is a plactic union piece for the coolant at the rear of the engine bay. The plastic weakens with age and if it lets go on the motorway and car drops all its coolant...goodbye engine.

I'd keep a few thousand back for repairs. My current S600 has 18,000 km on it when I bought it in 2011 and needed a new water pump which was around £1k fitted, spheres, a whole bunch of seals (timing covers, sump and a few others), and will need new rear struts this summer due to being driven when the spheres were shot.

I'm sure you'll love the car. I briefly owned an S72 and regret selling it deeply.

hmm

wow, thanks for the heads up! Should one perhaps replace this plastic bit then?
Really cool to hear that you owned an S72, how did it compare to your S600?

hmm

so much stuff for the rear passengers, either Yakuza or an Embassy vehicle?

I mean , rear individual chairs, rear electric ,rear footrests, aircondition in the back, rear blinds... someone obviously had the boys in the back in mind!

Great thread , Congrats on your purchase!
