Browser Change feedback please

I asked my daughter what she thought the words at the top of the "sticker" were....."sister's battery otter"!

running PC tools firewall and AVG free have disabled both of them but no difference

Lots of posts to skim but are you saying that:

PC #1 at home fails
PC #2 at work fails

i.e. when the only thing left in common is your MBClub account and the use of a copy of Internet Explorer it fails?

Just on the off-chance, have you logged into the forum, then clicked the 'log out' link, closed your browser and logged back in again? That operation clears the forum cookies (rather than deleting all your cookies) and might solve your problem.

I'm using Firefox at the moment, although until my Windows laptop died last week I had been using IE8 with no problems.

Failing that, I have seen problems on one other forum (that I used to admin) where users could end up in a similar position (PM works, but some forum viewing doesn't and posting doesn't) and that was solvable by manually changing their usergroup, saving their profile and then changing it back again and re-saving. I'm not suggesting that's the case here as it always happened as a result of a paid subscription elapsing, but if you get to the desperation stage, it might be worth a go.

Ian.

PC#1, #2, #3 at home fail,

PC#1 XP SP3 IE7, PC#2 Vista Home Premium IE8, PC#3 Windows 7 IE8

PC#4 work desktop fail

PC#4 XP pro SP3 IE7

Posting this on PC#1 via Google Chrome but still cant post in threads I have not started.

FIREFOX will co-exist with IE quite happily. You can easily import all your browser favorites from IE to FIREFOX which calls em bookmarks Once firefox is running use the drop down menu---file> import> microsoft explorer :thumb:

Hmmm. That was interesting!

I have (with Ian's permission!) logged on as him, and successfully posted on Johnsco's plumbing thread.

This narrows the problem down a tad - it's not Ian's MBClub account!

Thanks Ian - at least you know where the problem is now...

Thanks for the help Keith going to run some malware checks but not sure that will help as the same problem exists on my work PC which should be pretty Immune to malware, I hope !

This is indeed an odd one. If you can post using Ians ID it would point to it being account related (probably server side by the sounds of it).

Would the fact Corned can post not point to the problem being my side and not the account or server side?

SWMBO has also just pointed out the other common denominator is that my work e mail address has changed to the new company and a new server and I have accessed that account via Outlook Web Access on all the machines I am talking about to check it. Maybe that may have B*ggered up some of my settings? Going to give the machines a good fettle tonight and see what happens.

Might also try a system restore to a point where I know I could post very frustrating but I'm learning a lot :D

It would point to it being a profile problem and if you have logged out and deleted all your temp files and cookies before logging in then in my mind it would be more likely to be on the host.

But it would be the first of its kind if it is.

Not sure that webmail settings would be as intrusive as that... some Boffs to impose a few security measures but... i'd be surprised oif that was trhe cause.

A good test would be to get someone else to logon as you on a known good PC.

I thought thats what Corned did? He logged on as me on his known good machine and all was OK.

Doing a system restore and clean on my laptop as we speak back to last Friday when I could post so will try it again later.

I agree with you about OWA but it is common accross all machines

Ahhh...

OK then scratch that, for some reason I thought you logged on as him and it was OK. :D

Could you not now reverse that process and log in as him ?

Alternatively we could take one of these banned rougue trader accounts, temporarily unban the account and reset the password and you use that to log in ?

Just a thought

Thanks Mark, I'll try on my laptop when I get it cleaned up and restored see if that works, If not I'll have a word with Keith (Corned) and we'll reverse the process see how that goes. If I'm still struggling maybe we can explore the above?

Many thanks for the help guys I have never seen anything like this before, I can post on the Ford & Volvo forums with no issues so its really strange but i'm pretty convinced its something to do with my machines.

One thing its taught me is how good the other browsers are compared to IE, must admit quite taken by google chrome

have you run malwarebytes recently?

its just running on my other machine at the moment (last scan about a week ago) restored it back to last Friday, ran ccleaner and registry fix, no obvious issues, defragged it and its now doing the full scan on malwarebytes will keep you posted

Thanks
