"Brutus" the e55k Project

More bits??

Well i'm getting a collection quite a collection of bits now pmsl, I noticed some wandering under hard braking and general small vibs through the steering similar to a un balanced wheel although not as bad and with only one hand on the steering.

Ended up fitting 2x new Tie rod ends and its transformed the feel of the steering :bannana:

Also the postman brought my new v5 today so i also managed to get my Plate put on, makes it look so much cleaner :)

Sooo, quite alot done this week and hopefully more miles to be covered this weekend.

Your car is going to resemble Triggers broom soon Gav:D

Tbf your right i think lololol, This is a car that didnt require much if anything lol, But i am rather picky with my cars, they do have to be right.

Also what is the crack with the Supercharger noise?? i really dont hear much of mine inside at all?

I'm pretty sure it's working as the car really does go very well, but i just dont hear that whine.

I have heard it once outside wen a friend drove it, and i here it on tick over. But nowt inside? But tbf i've not hit kick down or nowt yet as there is simplyno need to, it go's that well.

You won't hear the s/c at tickover as it doesn't cut in until 1850rpm. Some are quiet, some whine (A bit like women) Mine is quiet (the s/c that is)

Rotfl oh ok, thats put my mind a little at ease lol, Perhaps it may pay me to put Brutus into a specialist just for a check over.

It go's well pushes my head back and feel a push behind the shoulders on boost lol

Best bet is to take it onto a quiet road with a fried, push him out and get him to listen as you drive past at a ridiculous speed. Should be able to tell if you have a whiner or not.

With the exhaust noise on more than half throttle you wouldn't hear it inside anyway.

Ta buddy i will do  Private one of course ;)

More detailing

Did abit more detailing, Remove the side mouldings and fuel filler cover, It always surprises me how much better/cleaner small details make the car look when done.

Anyone else turned on by this hole ?

How many Check there car's?

With all this modding that go's on with our car's this item i replaced tonight could be a good one to check out.

Now i know by the looks of it she's the original flex disc, But at 100k and 560hp it's a good item to check out.

I'd noticed a small vib under acceleration, and a little movement/general summit not quite right.

After checking the car all over came across this beasty. The rear flex disc to diff, And on the garage floor with limited height it was abit of a pig to change lol But the drive after was soooo worth it.:bannana:

The Febi part had the exact same marking's as the original unit part number shown in the pic's, and the cracks were also presant on both sides and were even more aparent in trying to remove the old one.

Hope the above helps.

Skint lol

Well my new wheels turned up after a week of waiting, And just having a sensible size make the ride soo much smoother (but perhaps im getting old) lol anyway i'm pleased with my choice.

8j on the front 9j opn the rear
Front tyre size 245/40/18
Rears are 265/35/18

No Tpms error's which is also cool, it's either been mapped out or works off the rolling radius.

I've order some AMG centre caps which fingers crossed will finish it off. Now i''m totally skint for abit so Brutus better behave itself:crazy:

Rear Gearbox Mount

Well, did the Gearbox mount today and what a piece of p*** to do lol took all of 15mins.

Old one made by Trucktec? it's not that old and ive a record of it being done, But i knew it didnt feel right so changed it out with a Febi Part which looked alot more substantial, Car really feels nice and tight now.

Febi Part number was 11107 and fitted spot on:thumb:

More detailing

The onslaught continues, The previous owner had machine polished the car but didn't tape up panel gaps etc.

Lots of burnt cooked paint has had tobe removed, This extended to the sides of the bonnet, Also the underside of the bonnet was... well original untouched so ive been cleaning that to which has been hard going.

Bonnet catches will be removed and the latches so i can clean behind and the items themselves.

Wishbone and Airmatic struts!

Wel well well....

Got myself into a slight pickle as you do, The top ball joint was knackered and it's the original which is all one piece, Ie its ball joint is not held in with 3 bolts but cast into the Arm.

No problem i thought:doh:

The retaining bolts which pass through the tower DO NOT pass through the back of the Air strut! which means you have remove the air strut to replace the oe arm:crazy:

Started by Releasing the level control arm bolted to the Suspension arm 10mm i think, then Separated the top Ball joint with my Ball joint splitter IT was tight lol

Levelarm.jpg

partially undone the 3x 13mm's on the top tower, took out the arch liners unpluged all the electrics to the strut, one plug in the forward wheel arch nsf in my case, and two on the strut tower, Inertia plug and the one to the strut.

VERY VERY carefully undone the 10mm brass fitting with a spanner, and unscrewed this. You will loose minimal air which is in the Nylon airline only. THE STRUTS HAVE THERE OWN VALVES which are shut when the power is off!

The Nylon pipe will come out with the union and its olive! DO NOT SEPERATE loose or put anything on it. I kept it on the tubing and placed it into a glove safely out of the way.

level1.jpg

I released the Bottom shock bolt keeping a jack under the brake caliper for support, Then the ARB link as this gives you enough clearance to get the STRUT out which is fully extended.

level2.jpg

The i removed the strut being careful not to get any dirt in the top of the unit and placed it to one side.
