Buckled Alloy Refurbishment

One of the rear wheels on the Smart car is slightly buckled. I'm buying a new one as I want to get it through the MOT, however I plan to get the old one fixed and sell it.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a place in the Henley/Reading area (or further if necessary) who could do this work?

Apparently the Brabus wheels on the Smart Roadster have a reputation as being easily buckled.

Its only slightly bent! Come on chaps where is your spirit of adventure?!

My spirit of adventure does not extend to driving a Smart car with a formerly buckled alloy wheel.

But I do like the Smart, and briefly considered buying one as a runabout.

No doubt this wheel is only slightly bent and no doubt the seller will tell any prospective buyer about it, but it is certainly a heads up about buying a second-hand vehicle.

My two penarth is bin it. Life is far, far more valuable than the price of a replacement wheel.

you will have to find a bent refurbishing firm to straighten the crooked wheel... it may kill someone someday, im a stingy person, but trust me, if i were you id chuck it in the bin..

We do not know if it is a little dent or what, all of the wheel firms including Pristine Wheels offer a repair service, they are the experts and they know what is safe, so why not ask first those that are in the wheel repair business

If you are going to sell the wheel then the price of getting it fixed will out weigh the price you will get for it anyway:crazy:

Bin it!!

Bin it, don't pass it on to someone else, it may fail and kill/maim someone as a result. You wuddn't wanna do that. Or maybe you would I dunno?. I wouldn't.

Thanks for your kind advice Malcolm.

Until very recently this wheel below was on my car and the tyre on it was not going down, nor was there any vibration I was aware of.

Must say I'm slightly disappointed with the sanctimonious tone adopted by some posters in this thread with scant evidence of the actual situation.

I'll contact the professional wheel refurbishers (all of whom have said they might be able to fix it) and make a judgement then.

Thanks all for the responses.

Hi Rose Chap,
Surely if we ask a question we must expect an honest answer? Why not post the picture when you ask the question? If you don't have a picture then perhaps take one before submitting the post?

Sanctimonious is a word used to insult people and are we suggesting anyone was out to harm, or ridicule? We all have differing standards of what may or may not be acceptable and having seen the picture and if the angles are not distorted, I would bin that wheel! It might indeed be straightened and others might go down that route, there choice, there decision.

Regards
John the 'I am morally better than you' :)

You really have only yourself to blame for that.

Your wheel is buckled enough for you to replace it. In spite of this, you have made it clear that you would be perfectly happy to sell it to someone else.

All that has happened is that people on here have put themselves in the position of someone either buying a car with a dodgy wheel, or being offered a dodgy wheel on its own. If you genuinely cannot see why people would be unhappy to find themselves in either of those two situations, then there is nothing else I can say to you.

I'm consider getting it repaired and then selling it yes. Just as many people fix other non functional parts of their cars and sell them on. I fail to see the issue with this.

Granted if the wheel itself was horrifically damaged and I was attempting to rip someone off I could see why people might be so vocal in their objections, but its not, and I'm not.

For those of you who took my post in the spirit it was intended and have recommended wheel refurbishers, thank you. :)

For those of you who adopted a morally superior position then good for you.

That is all. Thanks.
