Great News in the Budget today. The Chancellor has just said that he won't merely delay the 3p petrol tax, later this year. HE WILL SCRAP IT ALTOGETHER.

How about a reduction? That would help even more!

The problem with reducing fuel duty is that the oil companies know what price the market will stand. If the duty is reduced they will increase their prices to compensate.

How much has he put Road Tax up buy though.

I can see his is going to move away from being an informative thread, to just becoming a political slagging.

We're running a massive deficit.

So the money not taken via fuel duty will either come via other means (eg. income tax, reduced spending, NI) or be added to the deficit to be paid by future generations.

Not exactly a simple win-win situation.

you may well be right

at the end of the day the actual nations debt is £1.2 trillion
however, as a nation, we are also currently spending circa £100 billion a year more than we earn. This adds to the £1.2 trillion pile.

Although they wont admit it, the majority of politicians couldnt care less about the country living within its means. they are more interested in being relelected.

Until the electorate at large becomes financially and politically worldly wise, the situation will continue and everyone will continue to pay through the nose for a long long time to come.

Personally I'm with the ostriches - just bury my head in the sand and hopefully someone will give us a couple of trillion..................yeh right...
