Bullies on Internet discussion forums

Can we have "You smell because you do" and "You're a git because you are" buttons please ?

Trouble is, people might just add them to their signature, to get their retaliation in first.

But seriously...posts can be tagged with Thanks, perhaps we could have a Thumbs Down option too, to express disagreement in a similar effortless and non-contentious (???) way. Works on other boards- though anonymity probably encourages usage.

Stuff having a disapprove button - why encourage whingers? why not have a "close my account im in a strop button" or a call the samaritans button that redirects them to someon who gives a **** ?

Internet bullying is a mythical concept invented by those without the conviction or intelligence to win an arguement.

Or people who will not admit they are wrong.

Well I've seen a great deal of personal insults fly around recently and I find it rather disturbing and unpleasant.

It is not the behaviour becoming of gentlemen and imho it is destructive and should stop.

The contradiction is that as soon as someone says anything that vaguely contradicts DM, he is like a dog with a bone about it and it's ruining perfectly innocent threads.

I always used to look out for his posts because I found them to be helpful and knowledgeable, but now he's almost on permanent attack mode about everything.

Calling me a creep because I've tried to be diplomatic with SteveC250 was quite pathetic, you can call me a billy hunt or a merchant banker even, but I'm no creep.

But you were being one.

I'll make this simple.

If people would actually reference some fact, it would stop any arguments because it's indisputable, but nobody is interested in facts anymore, just endless unsubstantiated opinion to prove their point...which I can't help it is often wrong.

As to you always being above reproach, you added unnecessary posts to "contentious" threads, such as:

At least you tried David. :wallbash:

Either way, it was a good result. :thumb:

And if you meant Hasbro, my searches show sales last year of $1.35bn.

If you recall, it was Seven made the initial sarcastic posts, then continued with sarcastic comments about Specsavers.

I had referenced the factual information I used, which was straight off the Hasbro website. It was their error, not mine, but you felt the need to continue the "debate".

So, above reproach, you are not.

Don't forget it was me found the company was Hasbro Toys, not Hambro...you see I like facts...they stop arguments... :)

For seven...£4.3Bn is not a large sum in some circles. ;)

p.s. Is steve c250 going to give us brim to brim figures, or not?

In your eyes...in others he may have been trying to pour oil over troubled waters.

Not sure facts have ever been considered indisputable on this forum, fact has never got in the way of a good bicker.

As to you always being above reproach

I'm pretty sure if any of us have been here long enough we will have posted something that can be used in a virtual court of law to contradict our current positions.

p.s. Is steve c250 going to give us brim to brim figures, or not?

At the risk of being a creep, mwhahahahahah !!! I trawled through the pages of a thread I don't care about because it was referenced here and frankly, in my view, you were extremely helpful to a newbie initially and the flounce and subsequent reactions were unnecessary.

Anyway, he's left, I'll get over it, hope you all do too.

Now where's that Doom Bar ?

If person A posts "I like X" is no-one allowed a contrary opinion without being accused of whingeing? This would be a strange and pointless forum if the first opinion posted on a subject prevented any further input other than agreement.

And if no-one gives a whatever about what other people think, what's the point of posting on a forum? You might as well just keep your thoughts in a secret diary.

I already had, He wasn't worth wasting effort over.

Thanks for your view.

As an aside, I''m posting while 1/2 ****** as I find it makes things make a lot more sense on here in the absence of any facts. :D

Thanks for focusing on the key point.

The problem's not the disagreement.

It's not the playful banter (which IMO includes light-hearted pig-headedness).

It's the abuse.

Hahaha! Even when you admit that you're wrong, it's someone else's fault, because you are never wrong, are you?

I've never said that I'm beyond reproach, when have I ever said that? I've actually come to your defence on a few occasions in the past when others have been having digs at you, yet now with the benefit of hindsight, they were right...

And no, I wasn't creeping, as SteveC250 was a newish member I thought I'd try and smooth the situation.

I'll refrain from calling you names, I grew out of that when I was nine year old...

This place is like my local pub.

There is a crowd of locals in the corner. Old hacks that know it all, don't like change, don't like young whipper snappers with their flash motors, and have an opinion on everything.

Which is fine. They are what they are. Accept it I guess. You choose to step into the bar, assuming you come back for second vist or more ;)

Wo betide you if you think you can engage in debate though, especially if you are new, or if you are on your own. You had better know your stuff though....

When you step into the bar regularly you begin to realise what lights their fuse.

And others, including Mozzer, who like me have been around for a while, recognise this. We come and go, but we're not necessarily here everyday. I hope you don't mind me referring to you Mozzer......

To newcomers it can be quite tricky. Often ending in a spat with the newcomer storming off.

Occasionally a regular will try to step in but tempers flare.

Sometimes the landlord steps in (read mod) but its a difficult to balance the needs of those who are always in the bar and actually contribute a great deal, against those of the newcomer whose customer loyalty and contribution has yet to be proved.....

I am a regular and have a penchant to step in to support the underdog.

Perhaps it's a matter of time before I get chucked out too.

We just all need to realise that we only came in for a pint.

Chill out

Everyone

But I don't want a pint? Can't I have a snickers or something?
