Im looking at buying a diesel c 220 estate on a 2011-2013 2.1 depending on price, its for my wife who does lots of short journeys will the engine play up with this? with DPF filters or such alike? if it could become a problem would blasting down the motorway once a week solve the issue?

Evidence would point to the contrary for many.
This is the way many seem to belt and brace to make sure there isn't a problem-whether once a week or once a month.
