C class luggage cover repair

Hi all

Our 2002 C270 Estate luggage cover has given up the ghost. We have tried to put the plastic ends back on but this has not worked. This means that the end bar is too wide to fit in the slots properly, or if the springs are removed then there is no resistance

We think the dealers bust it when it had some repair work done, any ideas about repairing it??

I have just bought a 2001 C240 Avantgarde estate. I have the same problem. Doesn't release properly when extended. Already been "repaired" by a non-specialist dealer
