C124 220 No Reserve

i think i should pass on a little friendly advice to the chap selling this car, no malice intended,

you really need to do your homework, the people on this forum are very very switched on (execpt me) and will spot the most tiny detail from a listing, they will discuss something that others would not even think about,

if you dont know 100% then dont state it, and be very very honest, or you will be found out big time.

i only mean to offer you advice! i think you have a lovely car, not as original as it may seem but a lovely car, just state what you know.

This is why my post count was only 2 prior to this thread, there is a lot of knowledge on here but its hardly friendly.

Ultimately the car has 10 months ticket, Starts, goes and stops and comes with a wedge of history and will sell for less than the price of a weekend away.

we are a friendly bunch on here, i think people on here are just sick of mis leading sellers, which normally ends in someone picking up a lemon

im sure you are a genuine person, i think your listing prob just touched a nerve as you stated the car had this and that, and its hasnt, can you see how people may of taken that as an effort to pass it off for a better one or mis lead someone. im sure you wernt trying to do that

i like the colour combo and the fact it has leather over orig cloth shouldnt be too much of an issue, i think it really suits the car, i also like the alloys even if they are not original. A totally orig car in great nick would cost heaps

i wish you well with the sale

The advert is probably one of the most honest if not the most honest on ebay. Hence it mentions needing a compressor not a regas and the fact that the car has had paint during its life. When I highlighted a vehicle on here that was grossly mis-described being sold by a member my response was ignored.

I have owned over a dozen W124's from the sublime (1 County Court Judge owner sub 50k) to the downright shonkey but this is a nice old thing. To me the seats seem the same as the interior in my last facelift coupe but different to both my pre facelift saloon and LHD coupe but I'm happy to be educated

I have direct access to the Mercedes Benz EPC so if you post up you VIN I can lookup the data card for the car and tell you exactly what options it left the factory with.
I agree that your advert is much more honest than most.:thumb:

Thank you Scillyisles1!

VIN:WDB1240422C277490

Since the Russian translation site went AWOL I have had to rely on 3rd hand info.

I really should update my profile and get involved somemore on here, a new arrival means that a coupe is no longer an option but I will be looking for a s124 sooner rather than later

But if a poster does not know he does not know; what is he to do.

To me it looks as if the wheels are genuine.

and to me the door cards give the game away that the seat material is Tex.

Ok have looked you car up and tried to post a screenshot of the datacard in my album but it is so small you cannot read it. I should be able to create a PDF copy tomorrow and send it by PM to you.
In summary it looks like the spec you posted was correct and the wheels are correctly listed as 15 hole alloys. As kth286 says the door cards indicate a car equipped with cloth so either the seats have been recovered at some point or they have come from another car.

Here is the real output from EPC

There is something unusual about this car as the paint code is unclassified as is the interior from factory.

Hi new member on here and have been bidding on this car as it sounds good with all the service history etc, after reading this should i be a bit wary espicially if no colour codes or trim codes, there seems to be something strange and getting worried about it, if any one could let me know as it looks nice and well looked after.

No I don't think the unclassified paint code and interior from the factory is anything to worry about. My guess is that this is a specially produced car - either a runout final edition done by the factory or a special order customer car.

So would you say it was alright to continuing bidding on it(wont hold it against you) but always wanted one of these and thought this should be a good un, but there seems to be a lot of confusion on here about it. Is there anything i should look out for when viewing the car any help appreciated plus need new air con compressor are they expensive and how hard to replace. thanks

New air con compressor is part number A0002300611 - price from Mercedes Benz Part UK (Oxford MB dealer) is £746.28 inclusive of 10% discount. You would also need the gasket set that is used on all the connections to it.
Changing it should be relatively easy as there is easy access to this part but regassing the system etc requires specialist parts/tools.

The confusion about this car mostly relates to the leather interior. I have done a bit more digging and interior code 005A should be mushroom/quartz cloth but this car has mushroom leather. If the car had come from the factory with mushroom leather then the code should have been 205 for the interior. The door cards are those used for a car with cloth interior but look to have been recovered in leather - normal leather door cards are ruffled. So either the car seats which were originally cloth have been retrimmed in leather or the car has leather seats from another car. My guess would be retrimmed as standard factory mushroom leather seats did not have blue piping on them which this car does.

Hi Phil,

I'm about all day today if your free and want to come and have a look?

Scillyisles thanks for your help thus far, looks like I am right about it being a run out special then?

My son had a new compressor, radiator and change to the new gas a couple of years back on his 300e-24. Came to about £800 using Behr parts (OEM rather than MB original). Work was done by a local a/c specialist.
