C124 Coupe - intermittent starting problem..

Hmmmm,

Funny one. The Benz seems to not want to start every week or so...but will after a couple of lock/unlock sequences. ??

Could this be a problem with the immobilisor/alarm? I have noticed that upon locking the vehicle it doesn't always 'beep' + indicator flash...

I'm going to investigate the occurrence on 'non-start' with unusual locking/unlocking behaviour...

...whats going on...????

i had this for 2 years

bought all kind of parts n bits with little or no joy

then found the battery was new but failing and so changed the battery and now its not happened in months

happens more if it bloody cold and or the car has not been used in a few days

Agree with the 'not been used in a few days' certainly! I suppose it a positive thing that its not mechanical failure...but slightly worrying that it is completely random.

Just gives me that sense of 'will she, wont she' that is an unfamiliar feeling when driving this car...

Anyone else?!

as ive got 2 i would swap lots of bits back and forth with no constant change in reliability

we would even try locking it, alarm on, alarm off, wait, unlock, stand on one leg, cross fingers, eat lucky heather and nothing worked except the new battery

its been suggested that my alternator might not be fully charging the battery too and it might not have been just the battery but a combination of both but as the battery was only 9 months old i took it back and now its fine but its almost summer which helps too

some said it was the OVP relay so i bought one for £20 ish and it made no difference so i took it out and it in my draw now

i heard you can fit an S class alternator in a 124 is that true? that would be sooper if you could?

AHHHHHHH man, its up to the same tricks! And now it just does not want to start...after a fresh new paint job too. One thing I have noticed....indicators do not flash, and it only physically unlocks/locks the door....anyone else noticed that?

Disabled? HOW???!!!

Would put some pics up, but the car is stranded at my other house. Havent tried the battery yet, but will do when i get a chance... its so odd.

i got bored of this problem and pulled the merc immob out. Will be putting something similar in and now I am also free to mercedes key replacement rip off.
