C200 2007 W204 Rear Differential sound

Hi friends,
i have got a C200 2007 w204 MB. its just 44000M driven and now there is a strange sound coming from the rear of car. when i got it inspected the technician told me that its rear differential sound and u have to change it.
Now my question is....what can be the possible reason of this malfunctioning so early ?
secondly i want to replace that and for that, i need to know the gear ratio...i tried to read but its not very much readable...can u ppl help..it is somewhat either 3.72 0r 3.73 or 3.27...plz help

I would get a second opinion. Maybe its just tyres causing the road noise? They can sound like a diff whining. I am not aware of 204's having diff issues?

i got it lifted and drove while lifted, it was not tyre sound, it was differential sound also tyre sound varies from road to road depending upon the road surface but it is always the same sound. rather for second opinion i went to another workshop same was the answer from there also...

Oh dear then the diff it is

As for your diff ratio it should be stamped on it. Alternatively you would need to post up your chassis number so it can be checked

Looks like someone put the wrong oil in the diff

Rather than replacing it get it re-built.

It's a very cost effective option.
