Boring as this may be, I wondered if any of you have the 2012 c200 CDI like I and are somewhat surprised at the fuel consumption going beyond the quoted expectations?I have just driven from Stevenage to Antibes via Hitchin, Bourg en Bresse, and Marlieux total 924 miles average consumption 77.15 mpg. One tank of diesel! The car is a 14000 mile 2012 model bog standard. I used cruise and air con the whole way so was not skimping on comfort. But I did limit the speed. The tolls cost more than the fuel. Why bother with hybrid technology? My highest mpg from Birmingham to Hitchin was 80.7. Anyone else out there as impressed with a 2.2 litre diesel going so far on so little? Well done Mercedes Benz is what I say.

Why bo5)

Not surprise at all, with my old w203 manage up to 55 mpg commuting to work and average +40mpg with wide tyres, high speeds up to 100 mph, heat up to 38*,heavy laden and air con on.

Well, my C270 will do 50ish too, but figures in the 70's and touching 80MPG are nothing short of amazing.

I too went from Dudley to Sheffield, thoroughly impressed with figures returned almost 60mpg (admittedly majority of miles covered on a sparsely populated M1), mind you I have recently stepped out of a petrol Insignia - absolutely dismal at 26mpg combined, and I ain't got a lead foot lol. My fuel usage has halved!

What did you set your speed at 5wann5ter?
Over about 12 months and 16000 miles, my 2011 c200cdi has averaged about 53mpg(calculated). My driving is mainly motorway commuting with cruise set at 70mph. I have seen 70mpg on the obc a few times durin hot days in the summer.
I do like the car and find it quiet and comfortable and torquier than my previous 2.0l diesel passat.

Best I've had in my c250cdi (nearly 2 yrs old) is 83mpg. Average from new on mixed driving (mainly M'way and A roads but 33% urban) is 62.8.

It's a bit unrealistic average you're getting, best to divide mileage per year to fuel filled per year....

I was quoting directly from the OBC which I reset when the injectors were replaced and ECU reflashed last November (this made a slight improvement) - pic below taken a few months ago. Am also tracking on Fuelly which gives an accurate figure of around 60mpg over the 37k miles covered since new.

I have recently Purchased a 2011 C220 Sport Ed125 and was totally amazed how ecomical these Blue Efficiency Stop/Start Engines are. When I Picked the Car Up from Mercedes Lincoln I travelled 125 mile home and the OBC read 72.4 mpg. I am currently commuting 50% Urban and 50% Extra Urban and I am currently getting approx 50-55 mpg !!!!

I've noticed the amazingly frugal C250 on fuelly, 14mpg better than any other. I'd assumed you trundled up and down motorways at 65mph, which would return that sort of MPG.

is it manual?

Yes that's me, not all motorways and I have been known to exceed 65 sometimes :)

is it manual?

Yes it is a manual - official figures suggest that manual and auto should return the same MPG figures, but I'm certain I would struggle to get these figures with the 7g auto.

My 62 reg c220 cdi sport plus auto average reading is 42.8 around the Isle of Wight, to and from work on rural roads average journey 10 miles each way, can get it up to 53mpg if driven like a nun, best ever is 63mpg on a run to Ascot from the Island. Most of my journey to work is avoiding pot holes.

Wow 70' and 80' thats amazing!! I have a c270cdi and the best i ever got was 60 mpg, but that was once , when the planets alligned , in portugal at 40 celsius driving on cruise control at 60 miles/hour. My average at the moment is 44 mpg .

Maybe its affected by the fact that I don't pay for my own fuel but I have never had more than 53mpg out of my 2012 c220 sport + auto and I generally average around 40. I do a 30 mile each way commute which is nearly all motorway and have done 37k miles.
I never drive with mpg as a consideration but still have never been that impressed. Driven in a similar manner my previous 2.0 TDI a4 was much better but it was also a manual.

C220 auto 2007 last 4000 miles it says 47.3 average but a couple of long hauls to Scotland in that. How accurate the odometer is I don't know. Had over 60 a couple of times but must have had a following wind lol

C250 CDi 5 speed auto, average over 8000 46.0, best 57.7 on a 400mile trip back from Scotland, was over 60 until we hit the M25.

Has anyone factored in the cost of AdBlue, which is also a consumable?

Diesel

I agree that the obc is not 100% accurate. Mine is about 5% optimistic. However I find it useful to compare different journeys with varying temperatures, traffic conditions etc. I know Im a bit OCD.
