Hi guys

Its my first post and first merc and need some help please.

Ive been told by the local mechanic who specialises in transmitions that he needs to send the codes to mb. He sed the plate?? May need changing which would cost 1000ish or a new ecu which would be 1800ish.

Does all this sound right??

Can it not be something else as all he did was plug it in but didnt check anything else.
Can u guys help on this one?

Thanks
deep.

Also from reading older threads could be the inlet port shut off motor. Would fault codes show if this is causing the problem?

I think he is saying its the transmission speed plate causing your problem.

If so then you need a new valve body (currently there are supply issues at MB) and a full transmission service... Over the 1K mark.

However may be worth checking with someone who doesnt just do transmissions ;)

Port Inlet Shutoff motor would show on having the codes read. It does not affect the gearbox, so unlikely to be the problem

If your indie has suggested having the codes read surely the first base.

When the port motor goes the cars transmission is not affected and it will go through all it's gears. It won't exceed 2000rpm and will be slow.

Jamming into second is the valve body symptom which us quite common and guess what, there's a delay getting the part.

You see, with Mercedes cars the parts and additional components are a bit ****, and so is Mercedes relationship with the supplier (seimans) so as a customer that general ****ness is passed on to you.

What milage is this at?

I would get it on a genuine star to find the problem.

Thanx for the replies. Its done 50k miles. Would they give me the codes and would u guys know what it could be from that if i posted them on here?

It needs to be plugged into STAR which is the specialist mb diagnostic system. It reads more than the standard readers

Could a leaking fuel pipe cause this problem?

You need it plugging into STAR. You will have much more of an idea for relatively little cost.

Hes gona email me the codes but from what hes seen the complete valve block/chest needs replacing along with ecu. And the lamba/o2 sensor needs changing.

And its gona take up to 3 weeks for the parts to arrive.

I will post the codes later too.

They cant give the codes for some reason. But mb are gona do the work for me for £1900. Thats the complete valve body and o2 sensor.

Is this a good price considering its mb and not the indie?

Ahh man! From where? Did u have the same problems im getting?

Mercedes inchape of Warrington.

No faults stored and on star three times. Issue I have is an occasional harsh change. Spoke to several people about this including the dealer who advised a full replacement would be required to ensure the problem was fixed as sometimes both can be at fault.

That said, they could not find any faults and I had the car diagnosed again last November and still nothing but it is a job I expect will need doing at some point.

I did have the oil changed but I think it maybe slightly low. I will be changing the oil every 40k as a precaution.

That's the same issue I have. Lurchy shifts but the car isn't jammed into 2nd gear. I'd leave it be bar fluid changes.
