C350e anyone considering one?

I do really like the Passat. It just felt so nice inside and preferred it. Probably because its has more room. Its was not on the list and did not want to wait.

How come there are already new and different Passat GTE versions? I did not know about these.

Based on current owners experiences for model year 16 starting in March they decided to slightly up the electric power to 11kw Golf also gets 32amp fast charging which it currently doesn't have. This then standardises the platform across the passatt and Golf. Then for 66 plates an R version will be available with 15kw and 300 bhp as standard. 15 kw will reportedly also be used in Tiguan hybrid standardusing thst platform. Mine is one of the first 11kw cars and should have it in March

I wish they would advertise stuff like that !!

Mind you the Golf GTE would have cost me £100 a month extra and the c350e Prem+ is £37 a month more on my allowance.

Strange but must be on residuals.

They told me when I was doing my homework could have had a 9.9kw car delivered in November or 11kw delivered March. New 16 plate also has fast charging and bigger infotainment screen, sat nav, heated seats, headlight washers as standard so bit of a no brainer really.

I know its not as luxurious as the MB but its a good spec and good value and gets me out of an oil burner. Would probably have gone the Passatt too but the boy racer in me came out lol

internet

Has anyone managed to use the internet function via a galaxy S5. All I get is data connection temporally unavailable. I do manage to get the S5 to log on to the MB hot spot and get the wifi signal indicator on the phone but that's it

Any help would be appreciated.

Passat GTE vs 350E

New GTE has 11kw and motorsport version 15kw of which you can map to use 95% not the normal 80% useable on standard. Still under the magic 49 number.

Different car I agree but what I saved on my GTE went to buying my Audi R8. Golf is good enough for me as a daily doing 30 - 40 k a year for the next three years. R8 Will be my weekender and the Brabus CLK relegated to standby in case I get issues so it can come into play as a daily.

I've been looking at getting either a Passat GTE or MB 350E and at the moment I'm swaying more towards the MB as car is available through Lex. There isn't any listing for the Passat GTE and I've searched for UK release dates to no avail, am I missing something. Has the Passat GTE been released?

In my case it is a easy choice, I have one car only.
When i grow old, I want a 20-30 years old 911 as a second car :-)

Are you connecting the phone via Bluetooth or WiFi? I think you need to be connected via Bluetooth for the car to access internet via it, then it shares that connection to other devices via wifi.

Also, if you are on O2 or networks that piggyback onto O2 (giffgaff, Tesco etc) then you may have problems as the car doesn't seem to work data on O2. I have a personal mobile on Tesco and a work mobile on Vodafone and only the work / Vodafone one works with the car for data..

Fuel Consumption

Hi. We have been running our C350e for about 6 weeks now mostly using electric drive. We have a small commute. We have done just over 1000 miles and filled the car once with 8 gallons of petrol (£41.00). The car had half a tank when it arrived so I calculate that we are running on average at around 95 mpg. However the fuel average on the cars computer is showing just 53 mpg. I have a feeling that the maximum mpg of 99.9 mpg in the cars computer is distorting the figures and in fact your fuel comsumption may be higher than shown. This may be because the device that calculates the fuel consumption is a Mercedes part that is common across the C-class range and doesn't allow for electric drive operating at way over 99.9mpg. Just an idea.

Need to enable Bluetooth tethering (under hotspot settings) then connect via Bluetooth I also had to set as trusted Bluetooth devive as would not connect when phone was locked.

I believe the MB hotspot just shares the phones data connection so connecting to it from your phone will not work

That’s correct, your phones line is the carrier for the wireless, so that other devices in the car can use the wireless that you enable from the car.

May I ask if it is the case that MB and MBFS offer no deposit or financial rate contribution in the Q116 campaign for the C350e, or have I misunderstood?

Just joined the Forum. Grateful for all the discussion about the C350e as I'm sorely tempted and torn between that and a C-Class C200 Sport Estate (petrol of course) to replace my C320cdi (08).

Reliability is key for me. Has anyone had one long enough to get a feel for the 350e's reliability? It appears to be a complex beast with much scope for things to go wrong.

Sorry if this has been aired already but thread has grown hugely/quickly and is hard to keep up with!

Personally I think its to early to say.
But PHEV have been out there since 2002ís

I would be 100% sure that service cost will go up, due to two different engine types.
Then again you get the best from two worlds I think.
Both a electric engine that kicks away instantly, and a solid combustion engine from Mercedes.
Time will tell, and I am a part of that time.

Had no issues myself.
Only niggle, which I think is just how it is- is the braking being a bit grabby at times with the slightest of touches. Very odd.

I've got a very squeaky passenger seat, only happens when someone is sat in it but significant other is positive it's not her :)

That aside all is well after 2500 miles of happy motoring.

Mine is in the garage while they try to work out what's wrong. 6 weeks, 2k miles and it won't charge up any more. Still fully driveable but not very fuel efficient!!

I have a loan 65plate C220d prem plus until it's fixed, can't believe how much less refined and slower it feels than my C350e!!

You should probably expect a few teething troubles as its new technology but at least Mercedes step up with replacement cars whilst they're investigating / fixing it!

Thanks

Thanks for replies, Guys. Just found out that the Govt grant is going to be reduced from £5000 to £2500 from 1st March 2016. Adds another little factor to increase the "dither level"! But my significant other is still making encouraging noises. Praise be! :D

Does anyone know what the driving range is of the 350e with a full tank and battery?

I know the answer will vary depending on driving style, driving mode, and how often the battery is recharged (home/work etc); but say I was driving from London to Edinburgh with no stop offs, how far would I get on 1 full tank and charge?
