c350e - day to cancel or not

Just a thought, would the pre heating not drain the hybrid battery, hence the warmed up car now having a shorter range?

You would use preheating when the cars connected to a plug in power source, it then uses that electric to power the electric onboard heater preserving the car battery range

Of course if the car is not connected to power, it would use battery to heat the car, question is will it use the onboard 12v battery or the 'range" batteries ...

Unlikely to use the range battery in my opinion. All modern cars have very sophisticated battery management systems which prioritises energy claims, preserving always the starter function and the heater would no doubt be in the reckoning ?

Perhaps the C350e experience is designed to be a challenge and only the most worthy and dedicated will prove they have the dedication. :)

We are at the cutting edge of technology and you'll be mobbed in every car park, every colleague will gaze in wonder and jealousy, How much is the Bik???? they will gasp in hushed voices (okay a little over the top but you get the picture).

I do hope your right - I am trading in my 14 plate CLS 350CDI AMG Sport and every time I approach it I think it looks the dog biscuits and the C Class doesn't have the same appeal - I am shipping out the CLS as I find it just far too large to park and the residual will melt when the diesel 'fuel of the devil' brigade start making diesels more expensive to run. I really will miss the CLS ....

Hardly a deal breaker not having the Connect me available, maybe ask yourself what the real issue is,.. Wanting an estate?.. Or a 4 year tie in perhaps?.

On selfish note if you cancel it moves me up the chain, from another perspective, I don't think theses cars will remain as affordable as they currently are, for very long, so stick with it and enjoy it when you get it.

Keep the 350e order Driver it will be worth it in the end....

To be honest it was based on the info merc gave me regarding pre heating and and charging .

The real issue is been sold something and then 6 months down the line after been provided with docs showing features, then saying, sorry you don't have that feature and it was by look/chance I found out and asked them not then proactively advising .

I'm a saloon type of driver, but if it was not am the c350 I would of gone for something completely different

Was to be a new owner.... decided over the weekend that i am now going to cancel.

The car has been delayed now until a Jan build date plus delivery etc, so it will be Feb now i bet, and thats if its not delayed again!!

I ordered the car in March and was told at the start it would be Aug delivery, but then when the order to placed told 10th Sept. Then from that point its not pushed back month by month, now with a build week of 1st week of Jan plus delivery etc..

Car was on a 4year Lease, so BIK is a big factor, and basically MERC are now costing me money. ie - Yr 1 BIK v YR 4 BIK - the difference is £147.28 a month. So every month its late from lets say the Sept date is costing me extra on the end of the lease, so delivery in Feb means £736 extra for me to pay the tax man based on no further delays.

I have also spent some time at the weekend looking into all the options plus speaking to a contact i have who linked my up with a guy who works at dealer at Merc. General thoughts are that i would be hard pushed to get above 45mpg on a distance long run and a usable range of a very max of 15 miles.

The options now are to go for something different, shorter term and more boot space plus a new second car as well.

I think i have made the right choice and may regret it, but if i had ordered from a dealer i would of walked months/weeks ago i think.

Plus, the fact all the Merc Connect me services are disabled is just another negative.

I need to get rid of the E60 at some point, and the prospect of selling it at Xmas is going to be a hassle too !

So sorry to hear this but it's understandable, if you could only be confident that delivery promises are going to be adhered to it would be something.

Mine originally had a production date of August, then was given two pushbacks into September I'm now being told that it's early October.

If my date were to move to January then I think I would cancel as well, it's not just the continued delays but the lack of trust and absence of cohesive information to explain why these delays are happening.

I did think things were looking more positive with some here having their vehicles delivered.

Seriously January Driver15?

It's a shame, but at present it seems the right thing to do as the only update I can be given is due to demand. I'm not wanting my car to be front of the line (would be nice) but just require more information on the why's and trust that it's going to happen. I have asked if there are any factors causing the slip back and if anything on the order needs to be tweaked , but just told no.

Another way to look at it.. Bik extra amount would buy 8000 miles of fuel at 50mpg

I would stick with it as the BIK on an alternative must cost more ? That said, I have had my car for just over a week and done a representative mix of driving and I think your figure of overall 45mpg is spot on - I initially got 15 miles on a full charge but yesterday and today only 9 miles.

Right -

After finding out that the car would not be here to at mid least Feb 2016 (Ordered March 2015) following build, PDI checks etc and on the basis it did not slip again, it was time to say farewell and vote with my feet !! Order Status - Cancelled

I have had enough with the let down of Mercedes, failed replies to communication and quoted build times, plus the fact my order from March 2015 was going to nearly be 11 months wait time in the end which was still not set in stone.

Core reasons for cancelling:-

  • Months after ordering found out that Mercedes Me would be disabled. (Also having paid for Remote online too and non removal on current price or BIK after finding out disabled,) Impact - Real time battery charge status, remote route planning, preheating on demand and remote charge timing.
  • EV range of 19 miles is realistically max 12-14
  • MPG - We all knew it would not be 138mpg due to the testing cycles carried out, but peaking at 45mpg on a long run unloaded is far from the quoted figures. (fair enough a 280bhp car the figures are good.) Dread to think MPG on a 4 person up, loaded up and roofbox.
  • Car delayed 5 months further than the 6 already waited.- Sick of waiting.
  • Home charge point price increase of £100 since May quote.
  • MPG concerns over location where I live which can result in routes climbing upto 1000ft from cold, more so with depleted battery.
  • Saloon Boot space
  • Seeing cars ordered after mine been delivered or due before.
  • Mercedes unable to detail the core reason for the delay.
  • Concerns of 4 yr lease with MPG.
Its been a hard choice to make, lot of mixed feelings pros and cons both ways as the C350e is a fantastic package. There are a lot of pros for the C350e as you know.

The plan now moving forward is to get a 2yr lease on "something", i am just going to go for something non comparable and fit for purpose and also replace the Mrs car as well now with a new one.

So - best wishes on the new C350e's guys and I hope those who are waiting get theirs soon and enjoy.

If my lease would of been 2 years, i would of took the gamble i think.

Well at least now you can buy a car with a proper engine and not this plug in 2 million mpg planet saving nonsense which is about as appealing as a game of hide and seek with josef fritzl ;)
