You must have hit something mate..... That wouldn't have just broke like that which is what MB will tell you!

If there are no splatter marks (yuk) I wonder if someone kicked it through - there's lots of green people around.

no splatter marks or damage to the bodywork .... i read on the mb usa forum that people have issues with the grill not being so strong .....

it must have been a stone or a fox that cuased it lol.....

does anyone know the code to order a new grill ? is it a simple job of popping off and popping in ?

thanks

It was a fox wearing a pair of Dr Martin boots mate! LOL.....:D

Hi paggzy

it looks like vandalism to me, unless you heard a very large bang
i hope there is no damage on the surrounding area

on a side note does everyone with a 63 have that herringbone brickwork thats me you and rashman !

....the grills are loose i'll grant you (not sure why ) but that hasnt fallen out

my labrador wouldnt make a hole that big !

I broke the same AMG grille on my W204 hire car recently - hit a pheasant which destroyed the centre grille, the one next to it, and the fog light. Ended up getting charged by hire company - the part is about £30-ish, but there's a bit of labour involved as the bumper has to come off to fit it.

If you look at the metal behind the hole there looks like an impact mark - reddish bit on the photo.

Something similar happend to me in France, something went through the passenger side vent which is actually fake so has no holes in it. The new part was £12 but I think the DIY fitment will take some time when I can be ar$ed.

It is a hard plastic so any substantial stone will be through it quite easily - be grateful it wasn't the foglight. I've also had to replace one of those!

Looks like a rabbit may have been the culprit, looks like a rabbit sized bit of distortion on the chrome as well.

Which part is exactly is it? It looks like the central lower grille in the bumper but I can't fathom out why there is a chrome bit below it - you haven't chrome wrapped the car have you? LOL

its just the central lower grill the chrome is a reflection

i spoke to mb they need the part number for this .. so i have to go and let them take the grill off then order the part then come back again to fit ... cant they just find it on the computer ?????

I had my fog light grille replaced recently on my W204 C220 CDI Sport, due to it getting broken by a stone whilst on the M62.

The fog light grille costs about £16 and MB Bradford charged me £30 for fitting, not too bad I suppose, but still annoying.

And yep, the lower grills on the bumper are too flimsy.

Looks like a flying stone or something broke that. I can see an impact mark on the plastic airflow guide behind the grill. Look at the brown spot. I've changed mine before after a motorcyclist decided there was enough space infront of my car to squeeze through and his pedal got stuck in that same grille. :-( It wasn't expensive to replace, relatively.

You are dealing with morons. I had the same hassle, Dartford parts couldn't work out the part number even after I emailed them a picture. They said take it off and find the part number too. Quick phonecall to Tonbridge and the guy knew exactly what it was and even posted it to me free of charge!

got it sorted

How much did it cost? I asked about having my broken grille replaced as they are replacing the oil coolers under warranty so will be faffing about in there anyway.

They say it is a bumper off job :-(

135 plus vat and that includes the grill lol bloody cheats I don't understand y they couldn't use a better quality grill

My grill has also recently been damaged by debris (twigs!) in the road
I have challenged my MB dealer on the quality of it and plan to take a stand on this - if i have to pay then i would rather have a better quality one than this flimsy grill
Its not fit for purpose will be my argument
Will let you know how i get on
