I've noticed a rattle upon warm start only with my 2012 c63. It will only do it if the engine is up to full temp and has been parked for more than 30 minutes but less than about 2 hours. It's only coming from the o/s bank and is in the area of the cam adjusters. I took it into mb Chester last week and they've said this is normal but I'm not really happy about it and I'm developing a complex about it. It's not massively loud but it pains me when I hear my 30k car with a German hand built motor, making these sounds. I want to get it fixed before my 3 month warranty runs out. Is it worth trying another dealer?

Always worth a second opinion of you're worried. There have been cam adjuster mods over the engine's life, but the noise they make is typically heard on cold start, for a few seconds.

It's silent on cold start. I've heard videos on YouTube of the exact noise and spoken to people who say theirs does the same. It's not really worrying me it's more the thing that it's a bit embarrassing when someone else hears it and I feel I've got to explain, "oh yeah, they all do that, it's normal" the engine is sweet other than that, no tapping or ticking noises, it goes like the proverbial and scares the s@&t out of me.
Is this a proven theory??
Mine did it just the once in the 2 year period i owned it, after being sat for over a week.
It never did it at all when fully warmed up / hot. You are worried and rightly so, get a second opinion asap as you say before the warranty runs out!

I can't see how they can overlook a noise like that on an engine like that and just say it's normal?? It's like they couldn't be bothered to fix it. I only asked them to diagnose it
Take it to an indy and ask for a second opinion.
a mate had a ticking on his 11 plate C63 and it was a cam adjuster I think. Car was not under warranty but he got MB to pay half.
He took it to Chester and was not impressed with their lack of interest so had it done at MB Liverpool.

My 2013 car would do this on occasion - like you said, did not sound great when starting the car. I just left it though tbh as it was quite well reported.

isn't some of this initial rattle also caused by initial lack of oil circulation on startup so in particularly on cold starts ?

I already said what it was doing. My personal opinion is that it shouldn't rattle at any time, wether cold or warm. But the videos I've watched on YouTube is the exact same noise made at the same time.

Neil I would as others suggested get some video / recording sorted and submit these to your dealer to have them review this as an initial step. Whether you want to share such here is obviously your call but personally always find it positive having other people's opinion.
