C63 rattle from engine

C63 Startup Rattle when warm...

I have the same problem with my 2014 C63. I had one cam adjuster replaced initially under warranty, but could still hear a slight rattle when starting up when hot but having stood for 30 mins or so. So after we moved house I took it to another dealer and they had it for over 3 weeks. They replaced a 2nd cam adjuster on the offside and also the timing chain tensioner and it still rattles! They raised a TIPS issue with MB and they checked another C63 in the dealership which did the same thing! Eventually MB told them this was a "characteristic of the M156 engine"! Got the car back a week ago and the rattle is still there, in fact it's louder than before so I'm not HP!

I've now contacted MB customer service to complain and am awaiting a response. I don't want the warranty to run out then get a big repair bill!

Did you get the letter from MB DE through the dealership, or directly from MB? Would be interested in the contents if it's something that could be emailed?

my CL does it too. Not every time, and totally randomly. However I find mine is more common if the engine needs even the slightest oil top up
I have been told by my local dealer not to worry, and i dont.

BMW Vanos does it too. As long as the noise goes within a few seconds and doesn't rattle away for long
