Hi - I have an A service notification up on the dash. Its an C63 08 plate done 20k miles. Looking at ATF being done as well from what I can tell from service intervals.

I bought it from main dealer up north but live in London so its my first time into servicing and I have a few questions!

Phoned AMG dealership in Loughton (closest dealer) and they quoted £750 including the ATF change and oil etc. This seemed pretty steep to me?? Whats general experience on cost for this service including ATF?

Secondly, I had an issue this weekend with the A/C - the light on the button is flashing and its not working (which the book helpfully tells me in a malfunction and to take to dealer!). Any experience on what this is likely to be?

Thirdly, the car is June 08 registered so out of manufacturers warranty but I bought the car in September/October last year from MB dealer so will still be in the secondhand dealer warranty I think - 1 year right? I have no idea what that warranty is if anything - is it worth getting into MB dealer for service in case something comes up that can be covered? Or is there no point and should avoid rip off and use Indie?

I don't really have an issue with MB vs Indie other than if it means I might miss out on warranty cover?

Bit of a ramble but any thoughts welcome....

ATF need changed at 40k unless its different for an AMG.

AMGs cost more to service, that on my E320cdi is £600 from main dealer. They do budge on price.

The C63 should be serviced every 12 months or 15000 miles - whichever is sooner. Has yours never been serviced in 3 years or the 20000 miles you have done?

I would not have expected the ATF fluid change to cost that much? The Limited Slip Diff oil change was £90.

My quotes for just Service A on my C63 were £290 and £340 at local dealers.

I can't comment on the service costs, but if you brought the car from a dealer than you should get 1 year warranty which should finish Sept/Oct.

You should have got some paperwork from MB Warranty detailing when the warranty will expire.

Good luck getting the faults sorted.

If purchased from an MB main dealer, then it's 99.99% likely to have a Mercedes Tier 1 warranty which is pretty much as good as the manufacturer warranty, plus MOT failure cover. That's worth getting it serviced at an MB main dealer in order to retain the warranty and goodwill thereafter.

Just try calling a few other MB main dealers, especially outside of London, and when they quote don't be afraid to ask for a discount. An easy way is to ask if they'll give you a further discount on cars more than three years old, and some dealers do.

Yeah has been MB serviced from new per service book. Last service was c12 months ago done by dealer I bought from. Can't recall exactly but believe the ATF needs doing at 20,000 right? Hence why is getting captured by this service. Loughton did tell me but can't recall - will check again in service book unless someone else on here clarifies....

PS any tips on Indie dealer for C63 in east/north London or Essex?

Cheers all

Yeah that's what I thought so gonna be about finding best priced dealer about. The Loughton guy helpfully told me not to bother ringing other MB dealers in the area as they own them all and pricing is the same!

Just checked and MB Loughton is part of Mercedes-Benz UK Ltd, which is the Mercedes distributor in the UK. They own MB dealerships in London, Birmingham and Manchester. If you call any of them for a quote then you go through to the same call centre and they're relatively expensive.

See if you can find a franchised MB dealer - still a 'proper' MB dealer, just not owned by Mercedes - the majority of MB main dealers are franchise dealers. The dealer you bought your car from was almost certainly a franchised dealer unless you bought it from the Birmingham or Manchester areas. They're much more likely to do you a deal. ;)

ESS Mercedes-Benz ESS indicates it's 3yrs or 31K miles on your car, so you're being caught by the 3yrs.

Other models are 4yrs/37,500 miles.

Useful cheers, I was just trying to work that out myself when you posted - the stratford one appears the same - MB UK. Yeah I bought from an inchape dealer MB warrington. Will try. To locate nearest franchised dealer - could be Bromley or Maidstone.....

Bromley is MB London, but Maidstone doesn't appear to be.

List of MB London dealerships below - so try calling a few NOT on that list.

Mercedes-Benz London

The guy you spoke to is right - the call centre staff will quote you the same regardless if it's an MB London dealership you enquire about.

That's right, I knew I had got myself comfortable on that at least - cheers.

Thanks BD. Now just gotta find a dealer that isn't London -they got a monopoly haven't they!

Tonbridge always quotes cheaper than the London ones, and they do a good job too!

But London dealers are currently offering a free wheel refurb with any service between now and Sept 30th, it was an email campaign.

Hi Steven

I use Maidstone and asked about servicing prices prior to buying the car
they advised £250 ish for the first and £375 for the main one - i'll dig out the emails if necessary, which i thought was pretty reasonable
Ive had the first and supplied the oil myself it only came to £180+ oil
they also are now appointed as an AMG specialist and are trying quite hard to impress so they may be a good option for you

Literally just booked in with them before your post. They quoted £499 for this A service because of the ATF change (3 years) - quite a big job supposedly that takes 3 hours (consistent with what other dealers have said). Worth me sourcing oil myself to avoid markup? - is there a big price differential?

£375 for the main one sounds like good news though, this is my first time into servicing on an MB so hoepfully Maidstone will do a good job and will stick with them...

They got me in as early as Wednesday this week as well which was ideal albeit without a courtesy car

Hi Simon. May I know do you still have the email with you? As my car is due for a service very soon and with the wheel refurb would come very handy. I do get emails from MB regularly but didn't receive the offer you mentioned.

Many Thanks!

Steven,

That price is about right. I got mine for 479 at Brooklands, drove it in, wamdered round, hand lunch and picked it up. I took it there as they see AMG's all the time. Despite other dealers being AMG centres I'm unconvinced about the technical skills they have.

If you want to take it to Brooklands PM me and I'll put you in touch with someone, not the regular service team.

Kamal
