C63 test drive ends with a golf in the boot!

"Accidents" will always happen and I'm sure most people look back and think "how the heck did that happen" but it's asking from trouble to pull on to a fast road from rest and trust that someone in the RH lane is going to stay there.

If you do decide to pull out then you've got to do it positively - and the OP was in pretty well the best car in the world to do that.
 
i've been in a situation where i've pulled out onto a dual carriageway (40 limit) and found a pedestrian crossing the road right in front of me. he had been waiting for the same gap i had apparently.

fortunately i changed my mind and stopped as did the car behind but it was close for me and the pedestrian - who pretended as if nothing had happened, jumped the central reservation and was off.

it way too simplistic to say that all rear end shunts are almost totally preventable by the car in front - the road and it's users are more complex than that. all IMHO of course.
