C63 Vs C43 (C450AMG) 0 - 155MPH

I agree, the C43 has to be a massive bridge between the current line up and the C63, and much more affordable. You must be seeing loads of interest and orders.

What are the delivery estimates at the moment??

The coupe we have available is for August delivery. We will get some more build slots for September delivery soon

Sorry James, meant availability and delivery in respect of C43, saloon or coupe. Cheers

They should both be the same

So they are getting 381bhp from the 2 litre turbo (A45amg) engine, they've added an extra litre of capacity for the 43 engine and they are only getting 367 bhp from it. What am I missing?

That they wanted to use a V6 and had to keep the power below that of the C63 so it fits in with its target market

Whole 43 'AMG' lineup utilises standard Mercedes V6TT engine, not an AMG variant. It's an oxymoron but everyone keeps telling it's a bridge between underpoweted and overpowered. An AMG enthusiast will buy a 1-2-3 y.o. 63 car. This '43' is all show and no go so not aimed at enthusiasts but people who prefer to look fast not go fast.

I'm not sure how sub 5 second acceleration is 'no go'

Alex, ignoring the AMG label. I don't think there's anything wrong with the 43 engine or package. The misses wants to chop in the ML for something smaller but still practical. She doesn't do may miles and I am tempted by the GLC 43. I will remove the badges though ;-)

Maybe in 1976.

This model fills a huge gap in the model range, one that mercedes are losing out on currently. Just because it doesn't suit your preferences, doesn't mean it's not necessary.

Have you driven one?

I can see what they are trying to do along with most other car manufacturers, making cars to fill every niche gap in the market. I used to know every single car in the BMW/Audi/Merc range but now I have lost track and can hardly tell the difference between the new C/E/S classes as they are so similar. So the 43 range is a bit like the S3,S5,S6,S8 range in Audi I may be making a move to London soon after a few years in Ireland. Its very difficult to run a modern AMG over here. 30% VRT tax on top of uk prices, €2,350 per year road tax and not possible to get Super unleaded. I planned on getting myself back into an AMG as soon as I landed but it looks like my new job will involve a good deal of business miles. Running a 63amg would be a little too brave so looking at two options. Buy an Oil burner for work duty then get an SL55/C63 for weekend duty or buy something like the C43amg/Golf R/A45AMG/M235i to do both. I still need to work out the economics to see difference in cost/BIK/tax,etc. Regardless of cost I can't help thinking that if I were to get the C43 AMG I would always long for that extra power from a proper AMG engine.

I don't doubt it's a great package for those who want that little bit more performance without spending a fortune on AMG or tweaking their car thus rendering it out of warranty. It makes sense. What doesn't is the marketing. Call it a '400' and everyone is happy but no, it had to be a 43 'AMG'.

You mean so you're happy? They already do a C400 saloon, just not in the uk. It has 333PS and 480NM of torque. It's not been set up chassis wise by AMG like the 43, isn't as loud and isn't as fast. Maybe they should call it the C425 [emoji849]

Me and a whole lot of AMG enthusiasts with an AMG engine in their cars, not just a badge.

But it's selling, so it's clearly a model that's needed. It doesn't change your existing car [emoji23]

Nothing wrong with the car just don't call it amg because it isn't...

I don't really understand the resentment the 43 models seem to be receiving from certain quarters - don't think anyone is likely be fooled into thinking a 43 is a full blooded AMG, for a start off it just doesn't look or sound like one....... but as it's been fettled by AMG, why shouldn't it carry an AMG badge?

BMW have been doing it for years with M Sport cars and I don't recall owners of 'M'otorsport division cars getting as worked up about other BMW cars wearing the 'M' badge on their rear/flanks - provided they were factory produced and not just someone sticking 'M' badges to an S.E, or whatever.

As James has said, Mercedes are just filling a gap in the lineup and to compete with models available from the likes of Audi and BMW.

Any comparison between the 43 and 63 doesn't ignore the special status of the 63 and other 'real' AMGs, it just allows people to compare 'bang for buck' and those that want it can add back in the 'X' factor of a 'real' AMG into the equation to decide which they want.

Perhaps the nomenclature of the cars could have been better delivered i.e C43 byAMG

as opposed to /////AMG C63

The latter clearly being a full 'AMG' car.

Even so, I'm convinced that an enthusiast would recognise that the styling and sound of a full blooded AMG, marks it out as the top of its respective model line and who cares about the rest of the public who aren't bothered, so why worry?

MB need to do something, I called into a dealer this afternoon and most of the current range left me cold, the run of the mill models all seem to be style over substance. I get the need for AMG models though and they do stand apart from the dreary glitz of the rest by having something special under the bonnet.

A decent V6 petrol engine should be available as standard throughout the range.

Is the c450 the same as the A45? A high tuned 2.0 turbo?

A friend has a new a45 and yes it's fast but it,'s all pointless noise and show, for me it's tacky. It felt like the rich version of an astra vxr frankly. I'd take a v8 everytime even if it wasn't as quick.

I find it strange how members here are slagging off the brand. There's surely a model in the range to suit everyone.
