No it won't... Those 8 speeds are far superior to the utterly confused MB 7 speed!

No it won't, not anymore, they have to buy their gearboxes in from ZF if my memory serves me right.

I think Mercedes are one of the very few left who design and build their own transmissions.

It's unfortunate that the Mercedes 7 speed is probably one of the worst in class. Perhaps MB should also start buying their transmissions from ZF, Getrag or the like...

Given the choice a Mb everytime over a Vag, hate the Kelloggs albran quality interior and window regs thats pack up every 5 miles.

If you're pining for an RS so much and, by the same token, you're not enjoying your CLS (which it sounds like you aren't) why bother and instead go and swap it?

By the sounds of it, you're a 4wd kinda bloke, and once that becomes entrenched then I know it's a hard feeling to shake.

You can then leave the rear wheel drive to the Misters. :D

Mo are you trying to say modern 4WD loose less power through the transmission?

You're obviously dwelling on a poor past experience...

Not at all, i have a sack of spuds 2008 a4 tdi With a Blocked dpf, the car has done 100k and feels completley worn out.

We have also a 2015 Vw Transporter which has been to and from Vw more than the miles we have had chance to cover in it.:dk:

You couldn't be further from the truth! I love my new CLS with all its flaws. I equally love to have a bit of banter on the side! However, I do prefer to acknowledge when there are superior cars/technology out there rather than cloud my brain with biased delusions... Besides, bearing in mind that Supras are not 4WD (the most powerful vehicle I've owned), I'm slightly baffled by the logic used to draw up such a conclusion when most my high end cars have been RWD...

Yes! Are engines more efficient? Are cars safer? Technology usually advances for the better not for the worse!

So you're choosing to apply your experience of two (fairly modest) cars on one of the worlds largest automotive groups?

I've had various problems with Mercedes in the past. Does that then afford me the right to slander the entire brand?

What you do is up to you, but since ive been supplying vehicle parts for all makes of vehicles over the past 20years to Trade and retail, Vag's imho are pretty much up there with french.

Still keeps me in business i suppose lol

Could this be for the point that most VAG's are used as daily transport, whilst a large number of Merc's are garaged away for the weekends, never are to be taken out in the rain & kept locked up throughout winter....?

How about the total number of cars on the road? if the VAG for example account for 10% of market share (in used cars) in the UK & Mercedes account for 5%, then what sort of parts sale trends are you more likely to see?

Would certainly have to disagree with that, just as many Mb's around here as Audi's and there are generally more faults with the Audi's for sure.
