Just got my car has only done 400 miles 300 of those done by me returning from Swindon last night what I would like to know is I am only getting 29mpg out of the car at best. I even reset the computer on the M1 so at a constant 75mph it started at 34mpg then over the course of about 10 mins it slowly dropped to 29ish this was with cruise control on. I was just wondering if this is normal.

I have already had a mercedes mechanic come out this morning as my instrument cluster would'nt come on and he advised I should be getting at least another 10mpg. Any thoughts please

Hi Jabba
I have a 350 petrol estate W212 and over the last 3000 miles i have averaged 32-33 mpg
sometimes on a good run it will show 38 -40 mpg i would have expected yours to be as good if not better
It has improved over time its now done over 10,000 miles
I was averaging 28 -29 initially around town
I believe cruise control assists/reduces fuel consumption - but i would appreciate others comments on this

w212 fares poorly 78% against W211 99%

Cruise control helps but only on flat roads it should be avoided on gradients
Official figures - 31.7mpg should be used as a reference point as your minimum economy. But with so little miles i guess mpg will take mileage to improve. My friend had new Pug 207 1.4 and it was only 18 mpg
Fuel consumption (urban) 31.7 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban) 53.3 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined) 42.8 mpg
