Wifes W208 CLK 230K Convertable - Me GTR on order
We have a W208 CLK230K Cab and it has 18" alloys, they were fitted last november. We have noticed that at higher speed (60+) the steering wheel is a little wobbly, could this be wheel balancing not been done right?, or could the wheel alignment need doing as there has been a wheel change?, I have check presures and sorted those but its still the same.

Wobble can be caused by flat spots too. Low profile tyres, alloy wheels and poor road surfaces means this is increasingly common.

May also be not enough toe in caused by larger offset rims trying to toe out at speed. Sometimes rear bush on inner front arm gets soft and agravates more.

Bazzle

Could be a damaged (distorted) wheel too.

Sorry I will always stand my ground on this that shaking is only ever a tyre incorrectly fitted or balance, not correct, or damaged wheel

With alignment not a bad thing ever few years as pot holes and kerbs can knock it out of line

Yep its more than likely, and with the new wheels etc, alignment tomorrow, then if that doesnt do it wheel balancing on saturday

I would like to point out that I may have a checkered past, but have never ever been "felt at speed by a car"

Crikey wobbly it took you precisely three minutes to spot my post. Or were you just waitingm as it was only a matter of time before somebody mentioned it?? :D

Certain bushes when they wear can cause a shimmy as can tyres if they wear unevenly

Uneven tyre wear can put the wheels out of balance, but not cause the shaking, as it is only the wheel that can do that when out of balance

A little pedantic there as worn bushes will thrown out a tyre and then subsequently alter the wheel balance, there is a cause and effect

When the bushes in the tie rod of my car were knackered they allowed the hub to move fore and aft and that caused the tyre to wear unevenly and then the steering wheel to shake at speed.

If the tyres had been replaced and the wheels rebalanced the fault would have soon returned until the actual root of the problem had been dealt with .

Nope, had just logged on and it was top of the "new posts" perfect timing..

Took the car in yesterday, the wheel alignment was 100% spot on, but not one of the alloys had been balanced:devil:

So all balanced up and no wobble now, but the car does still "slightly" pull to the left, its been blamed on cheap tyres and it being a mercedes?

wobble - again

seems to be a trait that they pull to left a little
