car sale E-bay advice

C'mon - there were only 2 bidders, and the 'winning' bidder has backed out. Of course the other bidder is going to think about it - I would. Right now he's wondering why the other bidder backed out (and may think the whole London-Yorks thing is some yarn/scam, especially as it was a private auction)!

No doubt he's watching a lot of other W124 auctions now.

Will it be worth more next Spring? Depends how many people get laid off and start economizing over the next 6 months...

Offer it to the next bidder down and put a Dispute with ebay saying that the buyer bought by mistake - you should get your ebay fees back IF he agrees to that.

went for a good price by the way....

i'll be ebaying my E300D saloon in the new year - suspect i'm up for the same type of buyer/waster

it will be worth the same next spring and probably in 2 years time - these things dont depreciate anymore!

I admire (but considering the current economic climate and price of all cars don't share) your optimism :)

True, but at £1500 it cant drop much further.... plus the fact people can run it on veg oil will always help it sell.

My optimisism is important as i will be selling my E300D in a few months, so i need to be optimistic!! :D

Oh I don't know, there's still another £1000 to drop there easily on the saloons (less so the estates/coupes) as the next generation of cars (not neccesarily MB) start falling into this bracket. There was a reasonable looking petrol saloon that sold for £500 on eBay over the weekend - the difference between that and your £1500 buys an awful lot of fuel to offset the price of veg oil :)

Good luck :)

Confucious, he say: "Man only find out the true worth of posession when he successfully sells it". :)

Seems to me that a lot of households are disposing of 'interesting' 2nd or 3rd cars right now, and keeping the modern and boring runarounds. Bad news for supposedly depreciation-proof classics.

Make sure you get your final value fee back via a non-payment strike.

hehe, we shall see anyway :)

Its definatly something i'm a bit concerned of, but i'd be happy to keep it if it doesnt sell for what i need for it. Or, if worse comes to the worse, i'll break it for parts and probably keep the engine and gearbox as spares for mine. I'd rather not do that though as the car is very good and i need the space for a nice W123 or a R107 hopefully!

Maybe i should rephrase my "cannot depriecate" comment - what i mean is that at £1500 we are not talking about a major amount of cash here - the car will ALWAYS sell for £500, but i think the least a E300D is worth at the moment is just over £1k.

Second chance buyer is coming to pick it up tommorow, and original buyer has agreed with non payment.

Derek I wouldn't worry about selling your car, I could have sold mine several times for the asking price to people ringing up after the auction was finished who didn't want to buy through e-bay:crazy:

I wouldn't sell another car on ebay though

i sold both my previous cars via ebay..... i think i was luckly with the 7 series - but the CLK i basically used ebay to advertise it - it actually sold outside ebay early when the guy came to view it and i ended the auction early with no bids.

I have a min price i will sell the saloon at and i am pretty confident it will easily fetch that price, but obviously the more money the better. :)

a lot of work was done on it last weekend. A bit more work and then an MOT will find it ready for sale as one of the "better" examples out there so i hope for a decent price... but its finding the right buyer at the right time. I'd love to keep it but cant convince the wife the Merc is better than her Picasso  - plus it would be good to get some space for something a bit different.

Pleased you're now sorted Phil.

Sounds like your wife needs re-educating, I cannot think of any valid reason to keep a sh*tbox Picasso

i agree - i hate the Picasso. Its cheap and nasty and i drive it as little as possible!!..... but then again, i'm a Merc enthusiast so would think that, whereas she sees cars as a route from A to B........
