Cars stolen from northwood now! W140 reg T8 SFP & W211 reg B4 BBG

So many people talk utter cr*p on the internet these days.

No matter how prepared and tough you think you are, I would bet that the vast majority of people in this country would be pretty shocked and unprepared if they were burgled during the night whilst they and their family were asleep. Are you really going to risk a confrontation with a maglite against someone who's also come prepared for a burglary - maybe they've come with an accomplice, and perhaps they've grabbed the biggest knife in the kitchen as they hear you coming down the stairs...

It's worth remembering that the people who have broken into your property know where you live before you plan out your method of attack and the ****nal of weapons - maglites/baseball bats etc. They can easily come back if you decide to hurt them...

It's sensible to take some precautions to prevent yourself from being a target, but if gem houses and cash depots can still be robbed, I wouldn't be too smug about your own security.

Isn't waving what appears to be a gun around a bit of a risky thing to do?

I would say so, especially a replica / blank firer - haven't you seen Snatch...

"The fact that you have 'replica' written down the side of your guns, and the fact that I have 'desert eagle point five oh' written down the side of mine..."

Ultimately it is better not to experience a passive or serious attack on your home and property by these scum and lowlife.
A man's first instinct is to protect whats dearest to you, wife and kids. Then things you worked hard to acheive and own i.e your MB and other property. Most of us on this forum are unlikely to suffer such attacks (and by that I don't mean are cars are not expensive or desirable enough). I mean according to national statistics.
In some cases they are unavoidable as you just don't know who is watching you or who feels they suddenly need your cars and possessions more than you do.
Ultimately we can only do what we reasonably can to protect out lives and property.
Good locks on our doors, keys kept secure, tracker if you can and fingers crossed.
Stay safe out there guys and I hope by some unusual stroke of luck Nav's cars turn up unscathed.

Gents, read this link from some years ago

BBC NEWS | England | West Midlands | Four guilty of killing radio DJ

This was my Uncle who died chasing of intruders who tried to steal his BMW.

When in any situation protect what is yours, but also remember it is better to be alive having lost your possession than to get hurt or worse still, killed.. Insurance would cover your losses, but what ever any one does, stay safe!

He had 3 very young children, and their life has been tough, fearsome and when reflecting on this incident, its just a blessing no one was hurt.

Recently, a family friends house was broke into in Stanmore, but once they got in, they could not further than the room they were in as the doors were locked from the inside of the hallway.

So my advice, get a universal key pattern for all locks downstairs and lock the doors at night always so the intruder is stuck in the room of the window they got in from.

Stay safe!

We have 3, dogs and unless the scumbags can hover the triple canine chorus WILL erupt. When we have a visitor in the daytime they let us know, so at night they would hear anything from a distance.

We have never been burgled and although I live in a quiet area I think the presence of the dogs (they roam the gardens and are seen on the driveway) would put most people off.

I know that dogs aren't bullet-proof and I would be inconsolable if one of ours got hurt but they are a deterrent.

The Boss' theory of locking the doors of each room from the inside is one I have used before at another house and is a good idea that will either cause the intruder to give up or at least buy you very valuable time. ;)

Will: I think it really depends on what you're used too... when growing up in Africa we lived on my father's factory. Break-ins were weekly occurences, resolved usually by the 20+ dogs in the compound making a mess, followed by my father, grandfather and the two resident managers coming out of their relative houses with shotguns in a very bad mood...

I still maintain - unless you are specifically targetted, most scumbags want to be in and out as fast as possible with as little hassle as possible. Finding someone awake usually is a deterrent, though not always. As I've mentioned before, I've woken up during a burglary and followed the charming young men downstairs and out the house. Weapon or no weapon, a bit of planning goes a long way... even is something as small as having a phone next to your bed (or do you need to go downstairs to call the police?)

At the end of the day, a line that was very common in Africa will always resonate in my head "Keep a low profile". That means, don't show off, don't attract attention, and you won't be treated any differently from other people...

There is a door at the top of the stairs in my house which is bolted shut at night.

If someone breaks into the house in the middle of the night, at least they cannot get into the bedrooms without breaking down the door.

given that statistically you are far more at risk from fire than intruders, I hope you have a good, loud smoke & fire detection system downstairs that you can hear through the door.

Sorry to hear of the bad news, hope they catch the dickless c**ts.

Update

Had a phonecall this morning from the police to inform me that the W140 S Class has been recovered. The car was found abandoned with no keys present and is being taken to the police impound for forensic examination.

They gave no idea whether the car was undamaged, i'm awaiting a call from them in a few days to let me know when i coan have the vehicle recovered back to me.

Still no sign of the E Class though, although i have purchased a replacement as i needed a car asap.

I've had plenty of people tell me that i should take my keys upstairs at night to prevent incidents like this happening in the future, but in all honesty i'd leave them downstairs. Last thing you want is being woken up by burgulars demanding the keys. Instead i've increased the security at home to prevent incidents like this in the future.

Thanks for all the kind comments and support, its greatly appreciated.

Some heartening news at least. I hope any damage is slight and easily sorted.

You are right about the keys - metal is easier to replace than flesh.

That's great news that it's been found. I hope that it's not been damaged or abused.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it turns out fine and that you get your E Class back too.

Thats good news!

If I were in your position, I would speak to the Officer in the case (who is likely to have dozens of similar offences to deal with) and ask where the car was found and how it was located.

Chances are that if it was wearing the correct plates, it will have been via an ANPR equiped patrol car.

If you can find out where it was found, it could be well worth your while doing a trawl of the surrounding streets for the other car - they are likely to have been left to see if there is a tracker on-board.

That is, assuming you want the other car back - it may well be that you are better of taking the insurance...:(

Great stuff, glad they found one of them! If your worried about the condition, you could try and ring the yard where it's being kept, and they should be able to give you a rough idea. (IIRC they are not police controlled any more, so you might have to dig to find where it's at).

Yes indeed - this is terrible news. I live close to Northwood and will need to remain vigilant. Thx

I am truly happy for you.

Let us know about the condition.

You should be able to view the car, as when ours was stolen, it was taken down to Colindale Police Station.

Fingers crossed for the E-class mate!
