C180 AVANTGARDE SE SPORT GONE AND MISSED LANDROVER FREELANDER 2 LET IT SNOW LET IT SNOW LET IT SNOW
help needed from it boffs.
ive just wired 8 cat 5 cables around the house 3 tv's that have internet builtin,ps3,3 computers and a freesat recorder.ive made all the ends off myself and tested them using a proving unit"all the lights flash in the correct sequence".
the computers work fine, the freeview and ps3 are ok but the tv's wont detect a network cable connected.
the length of runs for the tv's are roughly 12meters.
if i extend the modem supply cable and use a 1m long cable all tv's are ok work fine.
ive tried connect the tv cat 5 directly into the modem but still nothing.
ive proved the cables are not faulty as they work with a laptop connected to them
ive powered down all items, turned the modem on first then the tv second.

any idea's appreciated

no solid cat 5,i'm a spark and have installed miles of cat 5 cable and make the ends off every week but i'm totally stuck

Does it require a straight through or a crossover?

the cable is a straight through according to the instructions for the tv and i have used a proving unit to check my ends, the 1m test cable that works is a stright through also

Did you switch the Network Settings on the TV to "Wired", I think "Auto" assumes "Wireless" on some TV sets.
Oh, and some sets will set their own DHCP settings if you switch them on AFTER your hub, which obviously won't work.

ive called panasonic technical who say its auto detect .ive tried through the router and direct from the modem.works with a 1m and 5m cable but not with a 12m cable.

Sounds like you may need a repeater or up to Cat6 then....

That just sounds like overkill - I thought CAT5 networks ran up to 90m?
Mind you 8 cables at 12m each.. 96m.. you're over...

ive installed cat 5 cables with 60m runs with no issues

All carrying video? I think if they all carry standard computer data OK that points to some form of data /switching saturation or degradation effect. Have you tried sending some HD computer generated digital video across?

ps was going to suggest the AV forums but I see you have been there and done that!;)

It's an Occam's razor thing if 5 metres works and 12 doesn't its the length of cable. That's assuming you made up the 5 metre test cable from the same cable reel and terminations you used for the 12m sections of course.;)

yes all from the same cat 5 roll of cable, same ends etc etc

Stranded or solid will make no difference on a 12m cable, are the pairs of cables correct though? It isn't just a case of continuity end to end, if they are not in pairs then they will show correct continuity with a dc signal, but won't work with high frequency data. Simplest it to check the colour sequence is the same as a shop bought cable.

colour sequence all ok

The cables not carrying video though, it is an internet connection for the tv. He tried plugging a laptop in to the cable that goes to the tv and it works fine. So it should be fine for the TV too.

We have wired our house with cat5e and have longer runs with no issues.

and this is different to video?
