Caught Speeding?

^ I had a go in Europe behind a M5.....

Traffic meant I was behind it, traffic moved and I heared the M5 drop some cogs...and off. Being half ready for this I had planted my size 11 to the carpet...

Bus did very well for about the first 10mph increment..... however I had to call the fun off.... I was hampered by being on holiday I have the bikes on the bike rack, roof box on the car and 4 up with a boot full of luggage.

I do like this sort of thing (when the car isn't loaded) in Europe, in a line of car and your all bobbing on.... as you say good fun.

Sad thing is in more recent years far more police on the europe roads also, and due to faimily and carrying all sorts I've slowed down.

Fair play. I've not sampled Europe since it was all speeder friendly, tales of just being able to sit at 110mph on the autoroutes are behind you.

Usually just me in the car and the most in it is cameras/tents, not bikes so can hoof around.

Talking of which, North Wales in a week and a bit. Can't wait. Nikons will be charged, BBQ and tent packed. The hog is on tour....

We did the Frankfurt motorshow several years ago now...

Myself. brother and friend. My brothers company car back then was a 420sdi Rover. For over 3 hrs we rested at bewteen 120 / 125 (probably almost max in that car?) as the line we were in were...making progress.

I'm far too sensible now, 85 on the cruise now when abroad.

^ Always faster if your not paying the fuel,

From memory it was still doing over 35mpg??

is did close on 50mpg normal driving :)

I think the I6 is more economical than the V6.

Damned EU4 regs....

The matter was hit home at the YOMP when corned announced he got 39mpg, I did a mere 31mpg. That did mean following Tim Kemp but the difference was marked and following Keith no way would the V6 match that economy if I drove like Keith. I'd not see much more than 33mpg.

Don't forget I got 28mpg out of my PETROL SLK 230K!!! on the Yomp.

Trouble is as you say, the right road. Press the go pedal even in our buses three figures doesn't take too long from the national speed limit

True, but some passengers do complain a bit.

Don't get me wrong, I love driving fast as much as everyone else and I'll confess to not having the greastest respect for speed limits. BUT. I don't know that stretch of road but from what you say and the overhead shot, I can only assume that you were taking the bend blind. In which case wouldn't it have been more sensible to slow down there and reduce the risk to your life and who knows who else's? I'm not talking about you and your car's ability to handle the bend at speed, but instead what may have been lurking around the corner right in your path. Could have been a pair of cyclists next to each other just as a lorry was coming the other way preventing you taking that avoiding action.

There's a wonderful double bend on the A1 heading North just before the Black Cat roundabout near St Neots. It's a great challenge at speeds well above the limit that's imposed because of the difficulty of the bends. But it's a 2-lane dual carriageway so, traffic permitting, you can use both lanes for vastly improved visibility round the bends. When the traffic is heavy you have to forget it. Much safer (as long as you don't try it in the wet and come unstuck on the diesel spilled on the road by previous vehicles) but loads of fun.

If that applies to the stretch of road you were talking about, then I hope you've got away with it. If it's as unsafe as I fear, then you may have to take the hit in the knowledge that it could have been far worse.

It's a 70mph dual carriageway.

You can see the exit from the layby as you approach the entrance to it.

Forward visibility is excellent from the outside lane I was in.

OOPS, forget that rubbish I wrote. I've just let google take me for a drive along there and I can see that it's a 2-lane dual carriageway that allows you to see well round the bend if you use the outer lane. :thumb:

Hope you don't get that letter!

We're taking the Panzer back to the Fatherland this summer. The missus has relatives over there and taking the E55 seems like the only sensible option. :D

Real men come back with a video of the speedo needle going off the clock.

You have no excuses:
E55
Autobahn
Passenger to film

The forum expects.........

If nothing arrives in the post in the next fourteen days (assuming that you are the Registered Keeper of the car and that you haven't changed address, car or car index number recently) then you're home and dry.

I understand this is not a hard and fast rule. You apparently can still be done up to 6 months after, albeit less likely... according to the cop I tracked down on a forum who had been standing over a gantry on the M40 with a hair dryer when I was in a 2.0GL Vauxhall Carlton doing, ahem a speed.

If it was a parked Range Rover (RR) he would have pulled you over and shown you your speed on the speed detection device before deciding what action to take.

If it was a static camera van speed is recorded and used in evidence at a later date and you will receive an NIP in the post within 14 days.

If it was the Police have another beer and forget about it.

I think it is a hard and fast rule if you weren't stopped at the time of the alleged offence.

The 6 mth thing is they have that length of time to start procedings against you.

You do have to keep in mind that if you see a great driving road, the Police, and even more so the camera partnerships, see a great revenue opportunity.

There's quite a lot of buzz now that the camera partnerships are really working hard to catch as many people as possible to keep the speed awareness courses filled up as they're making jobs for themselves. Colleague of mine was on one the other day for doing 46 in a 40 in the M42 variable limit.

Summary offences ie. speeding are statute barred after 6 months.

I take it that the lack of update indicates that it was a non-event?
