Hi,
Considering getting my CLK220 (w209) remapped by 'Celtic Tuning' who claims to be one of UK's leading turbo diesel tuning companies. They write and develop all of there own software in house using a Dastek 750 rolling road.

Apparently the 2.2 CDI engines can taken from 147bhp up to 192bhp and from 251lbft torque up to 318lbft torque, giving a 2-5mpg fuel economy improvement once remapped due to the re-map moving through the gearings quicker and having more torque to stay in a higher gear for longer.

The cost of the re-map is £360 all-inclusive and comes with a 14 day money back guarantee; OR alternatively they have a new self tuning device out giving the exact same results as the re-map but with the ability to switch between original and various modified map settings as well as having DTC code reader for fault diagnostics. The cost of this unit with the modified map is £395 all-inclusive with free next day delivery. http://www.celtictuning.co.uk/Switch.aspx

I'm looking for advice on re-mapping my CLK220, 'Celtic Tuning' is the only tuning company I have contacted so far hence the details above.

I was hoping to hear from someone who has already re-mapped there 220CDI to answer the following questions:
1) Would the re-map be worth it?
2) Will the extra BHP be noticable?
3) Recomended tuner?
4) I'm not too bothered about extra MPG as long as it doesn't use more fuel.

I was hoping to hear from someone who has already re-mapped there 220CDI to answer the following questions:
1) Would the re-map be worth it? Debatable-
2) Will the extra BHP be noticable? Very
3) Recomended tuner? Celtic, ***, Angel
4) I'm not too bothered about extra MPG as long as it doesn't use more fuel. Good because the power gains are a given, the MPG is a highly debatable subject

Please see above.

Personally I wouldn't as the Gbox in a 220cdi CLK cannot take much more additional torque than the engine outputs. Brabus didn't offer the warranty of the D4 tuning box due to the additional torque causing premature gearbox failure. I wouldn't tinker with that model for that reason aslone.

Interested why this is in the detailing forum?? Are you wanting them to polish the car too ??:D

Had my CLK 270 done by celtic, very good service. I don't believe the gains are what they claim probably 10-15 Bhp down on what they quote, but very pleased.

There is no chance of getting 192 bhp from the 147 bhp engine best you will ever see is around 180 bhp but the torque figure they are quoting is about right @ 440 Nm

Would you see the benefits yes you would, gearbox will take the torque but as Steve says it will be on its limit.

Would I go all that way for Celtic to do it NO. There used to be a good outfit in Motherwell called PowerTune used to do my Rally car when I lived in Scotland and they also remapped a Volvo T5 I had they were a very good outfit but thats a few years ago now.

Hope that helps.

I too liked the idea of the E motion device. :thumb: However not wishing to be the bearer of bad tidings but according to their website it is only available for certain models/engines and the MB 220 diesel is not one of them. :(They can convert your car but only by permanently modifying the existing ECU ! Don't know if this is important to you or not but it might be for some folks! :dk:

Their E-motion device wont work on the V6 diesel either..

I looked into becoming an agent for Celtic tuning. They do actually travel up and down the country and from all the tuning companies I looked at their gains were the best.
