E280 CDI Sport (Celtic Tuning Map) Dissapointing RR result

Alex i think you have said the wrong thing there????

At least i have a remap for around 2yrs now but you are still talking a remap after all this time :D:D:D

Two years down the line, I'm still seeking confirmation of the quoted figures...

I agree with what has been said about Celtic and at least i do have the 320cdi which they say maps out ok, but now i am beginning to disbelieve Celtic although the motor performs fine and the supposed power does relate to the acceleration figures which cannot be disputed as i have said before it is physics....but their is a niggle in my mind now so may go to MSL over the next few months.

My remap was just £250 ECU not removed as 2006 320cdi so i wonder how much MSL will charge?

Probably the same... :thumb:

£225 as it was done via PCS with discount.

Well, I've read all this thread with interest, and have been fascinated. Not so much by the claims of mega gains in horsepower, but how they can be justified without any written proof.

I have known of Celtic Tuning for a long time, and there are lots of other similar companies, though it still surprises me how these "tuners" can sell stuff like they do and people are so happy without any proof that the car is better than when it started, and just prepared to go off stated figures.

If I were to have my car mapped, and I have been known to, I want before and after numbers on the same dyno in the same conditions. Not what someone's book tells me that it "should" make.

The big man up in post #91 is well worth listening to, even though his taste in cars is questionable. :) Ask him to tune a car on your drive and see what the response will be. I actually know the answer and can assure you it won't be the cheaper option...

I do know what you are saying but at the same time how do you know you are correct:D

Nobody know's. .......not even myself. ......dyno's can be rigged by their owners or operators and also is only as good as the chap using it.They can work on the assumption that you will give in to their own claims for their remap and hope you get drawn in.

I happened to of got to know my agent quite well and what he told me over numerous meetings was i felt I trusted him with what I was getting with my remap.

I have said it a million times my 0 to 60 is about 5.7 and that fits with power and weight and also I am happy with how it drives and the mpg.
k

Can I just add.
Charlie @ Surrey Rolling Road.
Won't bull**** anyone with inflated figures.
He doesn't need to which is why so many Company's People and Car Clubs go to him for that very reason.
What you see is what you got.

I've also heard that Surrey Rolling Road has a good reputation. - I know at least one tuner that always uses them, and has built some reliable high-powered cars.

Still interesting that there's no answer, or further input from the tuner....

Interesting but no surprise.

Ahhh the joys of remaps. I've had three cars remapped in my time, never bothered with a dyno test as I'm not interested in bragging rights just more mid-range torque and in one case removal of the top speed limiter.

For what you pay for a remap and what you gain they are great value, and no I'm not surprised that some don't reach the heady claims.

How would you physically know that it has more power though? It could be as simple as changing the power curve (with the same power) for you to believe that the car has more grunt...

I'm not saying that a dyno is a must, but there are worrying signs when a tuner is doing all they can to avoid getting dynos on their remaps.

I'm pretty sure there was an example on here that was trying to get down to Celtic HQ to get a remap or dyno, with a response from them being that they cannot dyno an automatic...

You can use torque or similar on your phone, or just be happy that it feels a lot quicker and is not chucking smoke out the back like a cheap "tuning box"

I've no doubt in the Surrey RR figures, they are well known and trusted as being accurate. I tested the car not for bragging rights, but because I had doubts it was hitting the mark which it has indeed been proven to be the case, it will definitely be going to MSL once the house move is complete.

Check acids latest post guys on remap on a e280 it will answer a lot of the questions on this thread.

I personally I'm impressed with OP's bravery. I have had 3 C320 cdi's and every single one of them have cost either me or Mercedes big money with engine/gearbox faults.

No way would I push them any further.

Was that remap related?

Nope. It would make me nervous about pushing more power through the car though. It seemed fragile enough as standard.

The gearbox especially.

Agreed, but the problems don't seem to be tolerance related. Just poor quality of parts which don't last as long as they should
