Chancellor keeping an eye on fuel prices!

The prediction is for petrol to fall below £1 a litre in the new year.

It's rather surprising that the Autumn statement wasn't used to announce an increase in fuel duty.

Yes. Somewhat worrying. Not what's good for us (even if the medicine doesn't taste good) but what's good for them.

TBH I think if there was an announcement of say 5p or 8p fuel duty increase while prices are falling as they have then the treasury would have easily managed to get away with it.

Moerover if prices went back up in a few months and they then cut it back again then people would cope with the 'regulator' effect.

A rise in fuel duty would upset the low inflation rate which is politically desirable for the Government months away from the election. Expect big increases after then.
