Hi

Has anyone changed their front pads before. I did my 190E before and that was dead simple. I undid a bolt and the caliper just pivoted up and out of the way. Popped the new ones and that was that! I just have a funny feeling these will be not so easy.

I'm plucking up the courage to have a go tomorrow (sun). Are their any tips and any special tools I need to know about before I start? I bought the pads today with new sensors in anticipation that I would have a revelation!

The car is a E220 CDI Elegance Estate. Thanks.

You guys have been a great help and my confidence is boosted. The links are great too with all the photos, hopefully I won't blow it!

thanks again

Mark

They should be floating calipers similar to the 190.
If the fluid is recent just press the caliper back ensuring there is enough space in the reservoir for the increased volume, if the fluid is old then as malcolm says the fluid would be better extracted via a bleed nipple.

Undo the sliding pins and lift away the carrier. Clean up the carrier and change the pads then reassemble with a light application of grease.

I know this is going to be a silly question but where does the grease go? I've got some high melting point general purpose grease in the garage.

You either use the copper grease or the Mintex Ceratec you must not use anything else, MB say that the grease goes onto the piston face and not the rear of the pad, others put it on the rear of the pad and shim plate
