Looking at changing the headlamp bulbs on my C class it looks like the small cross member above the bulbs, unbolts. Is that to made to be removed to make life easier or am I too optimistic?

No need, simply remove the black cover on the rear of the light unit.

Yup, it's a doodle, remove black plastic cover and twist the base of the bulb holder 1/4 turn and thing comes out.

Sort of I have those spring clips that hold the bulb in place, if you couls see it
Only trouble is I have a bunch of bannanas for fingers

The spring arms (there are two on each bulb) push gently towards the bulb (front of car) on each individual arm and move the arm at the same time towards the centre of the bulb. This should release the arm. These do not require too much pressure. Be careful. If you break them you will struggle to hold any bulbs in place.

Visit Halfrauds or mail dealer if you are unsure. For a couple of quid they will do it for you.
