I previously had a w203 automatic C180K. Engaging the supercharger was straightforward - toe down and let your head hit the headrest !!
Now here's a really silly question -
I have now had a W204 C180K (2010) with manual gearbox for a few months - luv it.
But frankly I cannot tell with this when/how the supercharger is engaged and the manual is silent on the subject - am I missing somwthing ??
(told you it was silly)

Is it defo a K and not a CGI - they changed over in 2010?

absolutely - I am aware that the C180K has a supercharger, the C180 CGI has a turbocharger.
My car is a c180 Kompressor, and unlike my previous automatic I simply cannot tell when the supercharger is engaged. Any ideas ??????

I don't know what you had on your W203, but unlike turbocharger, the supercharger is pulley driven and constantly engaged - as far ad I am aware there is no 'clutch' mechanism on the supercharger.

The advantage is that the supercharger provides linear power boost from low rev and there are neither the turbo lag nor turbo kick of turbocharged engines.

I suspect that what you felt on the W203 with 'toe down' was simply the auto box kickdown, with with Mercs 5g boxes comes with some delay hence the 'kick' (search on this forum 'delay before acceleration').

Your current W204 car would have the same M271 engine (albeit producing 156bhp instead of 143bhp on the W203) and any difference you experience while driving is likely to be due to the manual gearbox and not the supercharger.

makes sense - thanks
