Hello, just told that it's not safe to have a young child at the front because the airbag or you need a special mercedes booster seat that will disactivate the airbag at the front?
My daughter is 3 and love to seat at the front, will the child seat sensor not do the job ( I thought it was working with the weight of the passenger?) or do I really need to get a special booster from mercedes?
Can I just disactivate the airbag manually?
How does the mercedes seat cut off the airbag? I had a look at the "ass mass" in the seat and it look just like a pad with contacts, will the booster press on the contacts only, no electronic gimmic?
Anyone as a second hand one? Mercedes was squoting 170  , cannot afford that.
Thank you. Olivier

you should be fine on a front-facing booster seat to just move the seat as far back as you can and the airbag still active.

Just looking on ebay, there is few seat with the tranponder for sale, I might get one and take it apart, there is also a chap who sell the transponder but at 100, I prefer to get the whole mercedes seat.
Anyone as an extra transponder? :)

Read your handbook - it will have full details on this, specific to your car.

It's likely that the seat just has a pressure sensor, so the airbag will be active if your daughter is on the seat. This is the case with my '97 SL, and as SilverSaloon mentions ... I need to have the seat moved fully back when a child is on it.

As mentioned, I doubt your car would recognise a transponder. But the handbook will say.

I don't have the hand book... It was my first mercedes and I didn't know much about them and got it with no history/ book or what ever... I know... :(
Good point on the seat not recognising the transponder, I really don't know, look like the best option is the seat way bak.
Thank you all :)

You can probably still order a handbook via a dealer ... may not be too expensive.

I just called mercedes and I'll pop in and they'll try to see if it work or not with a transponder. Good. :)
I got a manual from ebay once but it wasn't that detailed then I sell it bak.

Oliver your car will not have the transpoder to deactivate the airbag i dont think...
so its not worth you buying a mb car seat as it will not deactivate the airbag

Going to MB now actually. I'll update the seat/ transponder situation thingy when bak. Thank you all.
Happy weekend :)

IIRC your car will have a little "airbag warning light" by the gear shifter if it has the deactivation transponder functionality - my 1999 W208 CLK had this.

You can see the thing i mean on here:

shown on this model between the right hand side window switches. It will light up when the airbag is OFF

Although your daughter might like being in the front, she is statistically much safer in the back!
This also means no issues over airbag! Just a thought

Updates

Thank you all.
BTB 500 and Rajinder 1 were right, the car will not ecognise the tranponder. No need to get the mercedes seat.
Hapy weekend to everyone. Wet and cold here , it's a day to stay cosy at home. Brrr.... :)
