Driving my other half's CL203 in to work today, I noticed (again) a slight whining noise when accelerating. Narrowing it down, it seems to do it between 10-40mph, between 1000-1500 revs and only on acceleration ie foot on the accelerator.

It's much the same pitch as the whine you get when decelerating. Car has done 64K and the ATF was changed at 37K.

I only noticed it as my S203 doesn't make any such whining noises!

Diff? Very unusual on such low mileage but anything is possible...

check the rear diff to see if it has leaked the fluid out, it may simply be a bit dry have have it checked asap to prevent total destruction, it may just need seals replaced and new fluid

Thanks - I'll inspect the rear diff box and change the fluid. You wouldn't also recomend changing the ATF then?

if it was done at 37k then it will be fine, think newer merc auto box's are meant to be sealed for life however it periodic changes are recommended by those who actually drive them

Just a quick tip, make sure you can undo the filler plug before draining the diff oil :thumb:

Do not ask why I know this to be wise:wallbash:
