CL55 dead after ECU work (and gearbox probs!)

Hi Flash,

Yes, the gearbox and checks are being done under warranty, but not by the dealerships you mention :)

Matt,

In order to help other CL55 owners I sent a summary of this stuff to my old man back at home. He said to pass on his thanks, and MB will probably assist in other tricky situations at least for the folks back home.

Sounds good.

That is going to be one even more mean machine now that is has been de-restricted and should burn off just about anything. Enjoy! :)

Does de-restricting the vehicle improve low end performance, or just simply allow you to commute to work in the morning at speeds in excess of 155mph? ;) ;)

Are you going to carry out a similar mod on the Golf? ;) I hear that you can certainly 'chip' this vehicle to improve all round performance. ;)

Thanks for passing the details on Scott.

John - just allows me to commute faster, but then I do walk to work unless its raining !! :D

The Golf from what I know can be chipped to 180bhp, which would be brilliant, however it still feels fast with the stock 140bhp!!!

Just had a call from MB and they have done some research and found the gearbox problem to be 'common' (well, they found the same problem on the MB computer system)

Fix is to load new software onto two gearbox controllers, however as the dealers generaly dont touch software, they are just ordering two new controllers pre-coded for my car, with the latest software already loaded.

Morning Maff,
Thanks for the quick response, that's good news all round. Totally agree about the performance of the Golf, it should even impress the 'anti' brigade.

I suppose if it rains in the morning then instead of walking to work you break into a gallop and get there quicker and thus avoid getting too wet?? ;) ;)

John

Maff,

What sort of top end speed are we looking at now on the CL55 after the de-restriction?

Up until yesterday when info was posted on the C Class thread about the C320CDI Sports edition I really had my heart set on a C55 AMG in afew months time but not sure now at moment. Would de-rectricting a C55 encounter similar software problems that you have had with your CL55?

Top speed is somewhere around 200mph, with the SL55 hitting 208mph, the CL shouldn't be too far behind.... however you would need a very long stretch of road (or a circular road, like Nardo!!)

If you can, get an extended test drive in a C55, it might make you mind up much quicker! I’m sure the AMG V8 will corrupt you in about 20 minutes of getting into it.

De-restricting most cars is pretty straight forward, unless you get one that MB have two different software versions for with the same name

I was supposed to have 48HRS tsst drive in the C55 this w/end but i have now been told that the car will not be avilable this w/end but will be next w/end. I am in the Berkshire area now as well, but because of bad Stealership experiences with various Stelaers am having to go to the Midlands to try a recommended Stealer by someone I know who has very close ties with them.

200MPH is awsome and will certainly give all the Ferraris a "very" difficult time or even burn them - the Audi RSs will not have a hope in hell of catching up
