CL55 Komp for me ??

So what's the verdict in daylight??!![/QU

First of all i would like to thank Rob (Bobby Dazzler) and Olly (Black55) for taking there time and effort, and everyone else for there best wishes. Once again it shows that we do belong the VERY BEST Forum.

Back to the drawing board I'm afraid. Rob you where spot on, the car was an honest reflection of that marque. The interior was a little tired, lots little things that would need doing to bring up to scratch. I would have expected a cleaner car for that money.

Now for real problem.Olly and i where allowed to take it for a good run,i left the S-Class and Anna as a deposit. Gearbox, the Torque converter i think that's what Olly said was on the way out. Olly said it would be a waste of time even to plug the Star thingy in. So we walked away.

I must say Steve the gentleman selling the car was indeed a very nice man and is going to get the service manager to phone Olly to find out what exactly is wrong with the gearbox, he can get it fixed under warranty.

It was not a complete waste or time, we did not like the Java interior. I did not realise it was so dark, so we learnt something new and cross Java off our list. I don't know the lighter coloured is called or Black.

It was a pleasure Peter.

The torque converter was messing about and causing jolty gearchanges and a deep drumming on light acceleration.

Needs a new torque converter for starters.

Thanks........now you are making me paranoid that something will go wrong.
The amount of electrics in the new car is scary!

Is this common on all 55 AMGs of that era?

Common ish on all MB's of that era.

Did a C32 recently. The torque converter was £901+vat:eek:

What's to wear in a torque converter? Bearings?

Can you get a Tier 1 on a car 7 years old?

Exactly the same problem I had on a s320 CDi 2004. Cost to recondition the gearbox and torque converter was a little over £1k and being a rebuild its still not 100%.

I am not actually sure what happens inside the TC to make them suffer with this fault as they are a difficult to see inside.

Not too sure about the warranty Stats.

Its the lock up clutch that breaks up within the torque converter.

I drove a CL55K about 2 years ago. Awesome machine. Incredibly agile for its size.

I love the way the brightness of dials changes with the ambient lighting automatically.

And very comfortable.

A great choice.

I know that the warranty for Tier 1 lasts until 60,000, then it's Tier 2 not sure about the age.

Tier 1 is a Mercedes supplied warranty for vehicles that have less than 60000 miles at the point of taking out the warranty, it includes all mechanical failure and all electrical failure including wear and tear. Exclusions include panels, glass, consumables and a very small handful of named moving parts (that are arguably consumables).

Tier 2 is a named component warranty and includes major mechanical components and specific electrical parts e.g., electric window motors.

On a qualifying used vehicle, a main dealer will have a 12 month Tier 1 warranty on it, you can extend for a second year at the point of sale for £1,500.

In the current market, you can buy x55's off a main dealer forecourt for under £30K with 2 year's Tier 1 warranty on them.

That said, in the current economic climate I think dealers are reluctant to put V8 cars into their inventory unless forced to (e.g., part exchange), so it may take a while to find the x55 you want. But when you do find one, it is likely to be extremely well priced as the main dealer cannot afford to have the car languish in stock for months losing between £500 and £1000 per month.

Frankly if you're in the market for a x55 and plan to keep it for a year or three, I think a well negotiated main dealer supplied car with 2 year's Tier 1 warranty is a good way to go at the moment.

Otherwise any purchase without a Tier 1 or Tier 2 warranty should ideally allow between £5k and £10k for potential drivetrain / engine failure and electrical problems - in particular the ABC suspension. Note, Tier 2 excludes ABC suspension.

I actually saw the car this morning, with the seller driving it, and so I suspected the sale hadn't gone through.

If I remember right the torque converter is covered by Tier 2.
